About the Role
Are you an experienced Engineering Team Leader looking for your next challenge, or a Senior/Lead Engineer ready to step into leadership? We’re recruiting for a well-established manufacturer in Poole, part of one of the UK’s largest groups in its sector. The business is investing heavily in its engineering function, manufacturing facilities, and reliability program—making now an exciting time to join.
This role demands more than supervision. You’ll take full ownership of engineering activities across your shift, leading from the front while remaining actively involved when needed. Decision-making, resource coordination, and ensuring seamless, safe production hinge on your expertise.
# The Role
You’ll lead the engineering function during your shift, bridging Engineering, Production, and Site Management.
Responsibilities
- Lead, motivate, and develop a team of Multi-Skilled Engineers
- Coordinating reactive and planned maintenance, alongside engineering priorities
- Scheduling engineering resources to maximise equipment availability and minimise downtime
- Making real-time decisions during breakdowns to restore production safely and efficiently
- Supporting continuous improvement, reliability, and root cause analysis
- Driving engineering standards, accountability, and performance
- Coaching and mentoring engineers for technical growth
- Collaborating with Production to align operational and engineering needs
- Ensuring safe compliance with food safety and site procedures
- Producing accurate shift handovers and engineering reports
- Facilitating communication between shifts

Key Equipment Systems
The facility operates automated food manufacturing equipment, including:
- Industrial mixers and dough systems
- Forming & processing machinery
- Depositors and filling equipment
- Tunnel ovens and heated process systems
- Cooling conveyors
- Packaging machinery (flow wrappers, tray sealers, checkweighers, palletisers)
- Conveyor systems and automated handling equipment (PLC-controlled, pneumatic systems)
Technical Experience Required
Electrical
- Three-phase systems
- Fault finding and diagnostics (e.g., control panels)
- Inverters and variable speed drives
- Relays, contactors, and overload protection
- Sensors, photocells, and safety circuits
- Reading electrical schematics
- PLC fault finding (preferably Siemens)
Mechanical
- Bearings, chains, sprockets, and gearbox troubleshooting
- Conveyor systems and pneumatic diagnostics
- Mechanical strip-downs, rebuilds, and fast-paced machinery repairs

Candidate Profile
You’re likely already an Engineering Team Leader, Lead Engineer, or experienced Multi-Skilled Engineer who thrives in a leadership role. Prior experience in:
- Planning engineering workloads and coordinating technical activity
- Supervising engineers
Will be advantageous.
