Maintenance Manager
Maintenance Engineering Manager – Wrexham
Competitive Salary 12-Month Fixed-Term Contract Wrexham (Days Only, Mon-Fri)
About the Role
Gap Technical are partnering with a global manufacturing business to recruit a Maintenance Engineering Manager based near Wrexham. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a critical operational function, ensuring reliability and efficiency across complex manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance Leadership & Strategy
- Lead and provide hands-on strategic direction for the site’s maintenance function
- Develop and implement a planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and predictive maintenance strategy across all process areas
- Own and manage maintenance KPIs, including:
- Uptime & downtime
- MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)
- MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)
- OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) support
- Drive a proactive maintenance culture to reduce reactive breakdowns and unplanned stoppages
Plant & Equipment Coverage
- Ensure the reliability and performance of equipment spanning the entire manufacturing lifecycle, including:
- Wax assembly & injection equipment
- Shell/coating lines and drying systems
- Shot blast, grinding, and finishing machinery
- CNC machining centres and ancillary equipment
- Compressed air, gas systems, extraction, and site utilities
Safety, Compliance & Reliability
- Ensure compliance with all H&S legislation, PUWER, LOLER, and site safety procedures
- Actively support permit-to-work, isolation, and LOTO (Lockout/Tagout) processes
- Align maintenance practices with aerospace and quality standards (AS9100 / ISO 9001)
- Support audits, investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives related to equipment safety and reliability

People Management & Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a multi-skilled maintenance team
- Support training, skills development, and succession planning
- Manage contractor activity safely and effectively
- Support shift cover, call-out arrangements, and planned shutdowns
Continuous Improvement & Engineering Support
- Collaborate with Production, Engineering, Quality, and EHS teams to enhance equipment performance
- Lead or support root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures
- Identify opportunities for:
- Automation
- Refurbishment
- Asset life extension
- Support CAPEX projects, including new equipment installation, commissioning, and handover
Additional Health & Safety Commitment
- Strict adherence to safe working practices and company H&S policies
- Immediate reporting of hazards, near-misses, or accidents per company procedures
Person Specification
Essential Criteria
- Hands-on, pragmatic leader capable of engaging at shopfloor level
- Strong safety-first mindset
- Organised, structured, and data-driven
- Calm under pressure with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Commitment to continuous improvement and operational excellence
- IOSH/NEBOSH certification (desirable but not essential)
- Qualification required:
- Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3+ in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering (or equivalent)
- 18th Edition or equivalent electrical qualifications (desirable)
- Proven experience:
- In a Maintenance Lead/Manager or Senior Maintenance Engineer role
- In heavy manufacturing, foundry, machining, or aerospace environments
- Supporting thermal processes, furnaces, and industrial plant
- Technical grounding:
- Strong electrical and/or mechanical engineering knowledge (ideally multi-skilled)
- Demonstrated experience with PPM systems
- Comfortable working in high-temperature, safety-critical environments

Desirable Additional Experience
- CNC machinery maintenance exposure
- Experience improving OEE and reliability metrics
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems)
- Knowledge of AS9100/aerospace manufacturing requirements
- Experience with multi-site or group-level operations
