JOB SUMMARY
To effectively manage the responsibilities and activities of the Engineering Department and ensure the timely and economical preventative and breakdown maintenance for a Lower Tier COMAH site.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage maintenance work in the process / packaging and other areas with the assistance of internal and external resource.
- Co-ordinate and manage the electrical maintenance through external contractors in line with statutory regulations.
- Ensure that new codes of and best practice are maintained and updated.
- To secure the health, safety and environmental protection of people, products and the integrity of plant and site assets through effective management, maintenance / engineering and housekeeping standards in compliance with company procedures and statutory requirements.
- Manage Asset Integrity Programme (AIP) requirements and Safety Critical Equipment in compliance with regulatory, company policy and procedures.
- Manage the maintenance expenses in line the annual maintenance budget, whilst ensuring that the needs of the business are fulfilled.
- Monitor the performance of plant equipment and report to the Site head/ Manufacturing Manager any damage or abnormality of the condition of the equipment for timely remedial action.
- Monitor the performance of subordinates, ensure appropriate standards of discipline taking corrective action where necessary and make recommendations on their training needs to improve their skills and flexibility.
- Monitor breakdowns and analyse faults to identify root cause of failure and reduce future re-occurrence of faults.
- Manage the use of external contractors to ensure that any expense incurred by the company is justifiable.
- Implementation of SAP PM - maintenance management system.
- It is the primary responsibility to ensure that relevant work permits / job cards, where applicable, are completed prior to the job commencing.
- Participate and assist in all health and safety areas to improve the safety of all personnel.
- Knowledge of writing operating procedures, method statements and risk assessments for all maintenance activities.

- Suspension of plant processes on QHSE grounds out of office hours.
- Callout of maintenance support personnel.
- Deciding on the local engineering suppliers and recommending the external contractors.
- Disciplinary action for direct subordinates up to second stage written warning in compliance with the company disciplinary procedure.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Approved Engineering Qualification.
- 5 years in a similar role.
- Knowledge of COMAH Regulations
- Ability to communicate effectively, written and verbal, with personnel at all levels of the company hierarchy and vendors.
- Problem solving skills and analytical thinking to reduce / avoid the re-occurrence of faults.
- Ability to assess current work practices and to pro-actively make recommendations for improving operational efficiency.
- Knowledge of COMPEX certification and ATEX equipment for Gas / Vapour and Dust.
