Job Purpose

We are seeking a dynamic and proactive Maintenance Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary site engineering function. This role balances strategic leadership with a hands-on approach when required. You will be responsible for driving plant reliability, ensuring asset optimization, and maintaining the highest operational standards. This is an excellent opportunity to manage engineering resources, oversee budgets, lead facility management, and develop a high-performing team within a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of multi-skilled engineers (including 2 direct reports) to foster a culture of continuous improvement, autonomous maintenance, and engineering excellence.
  • Asset Reliability: Maintain high equipment availability through robust planned preventative maintenance (PPM) programmes, minimizing downtime and optimizing machinery changeovers.
  • Financial and Project Management: Prepare and manage the annual engineering operating budget. Assist in delivering capital projects from initial concept and feasibility through to installation, commissioning, and completion.
  • Operational Collaboration: Partner closely with Production, Operations, Procurement, and Quality assurance teams to prioritize workloads, improve line efficiency, and ensure seamless production continuity.
  • Health and Safety and Compliance: Ensure full legal and corporate compliance across health and safety, food safety, and environmental standards. Collaborate on risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work (SSOW), and contractor controls.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
