About the role
Imperial College London is seeking a Maintenance Manager to oversee the day-to-day operational management of Mechanical and Electrical building services across allocated campus buildings, ensuring services are safe, efficient, and delivered to agreed standards.
This is a primarily site-based role, providing visible leadership and technical oversight for maintenance operations. Working closely with maintenance colleagues, contractors, Property teams, and project teams, you will help ensure buildings and plant operate reliably, support campus activity, and meet Imperial’s policies, statutory requirements, and service expectations.
What you would be doing
In this role, you will:
- Lead local building maintenance operations, ensuring Mechanical and Electrical assets are maintained effectively and that key maintenance priorities and risks are managed.
- Support plant replacement planning, maintain accurate records in Planon, and work with colleagues to improve building performance and resilience.
- Monitor maintenance delivery, contractor performance, and SLA/KPI outcomes, escalating issues where necessary.
- Ensure statutory compliance, risk assessments, and permits are in place, and coordinate mechanical and electrical shutdowns.
- Manage and develop a multidisciplinary maintenance team, ensuring safe and effective service delivery, while providing technical support to colleagues and coordinating responses to incidents when required.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
