What Will You Be Doing

In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure working environment by actively identifying safety, environmental and information security risks, applying STAR principles, and reporting any unusual occurrences. You’ll keep your knowledge of local and NRS management systems up to date while taking the lead on developing and maintaining your own skills, training, and authorisations. Your day-to-day work will include carrying out planned preventative maintenance in line with facility instructions, completing corrective works when required, and responding swiftly and safely to breakdowns. You will also operate a range of plant and equipment, often computer-controlled, while keeping accurate records, performing mechanical or remote handling tasks, and wearing various types of protective equipment as needed.

Alongside hands-on maintenance and operational responsibilities, you will produce accurate post-maintenance records, contribute to ongoing reviews of facility maintenance documentation, and support the supervision of contractors working within the facilities. Building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships will be key, as will supporting the deployment of company-wide policies, processes, and systems to ensure continuous compliance. This includes adherence to the company’s Equality and Diversity Policy and undertaking any associated learning and development activities to support a positive and compliant working environment.

Who Are We Looking For

The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in mechanical maintenance, with experience in general plant maintenance as an essential requirement. You must also be competent in using protective clothing and equipment and possess a solid awareness of safe working practices. While not mandatory, a time-served mechanical apprenticeship and technical qualifications such as City & Guilds, BTEC or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) would be advantageous. Additional desirable experience includes machine shop practices, electrical work, and familiarity with maintenance activities within a nuclear or similarly regulated environment.

A background in diverse maintenance operations will be highly valuable. This includes ventilation servicing, wastewater pump installation and repair, pressure testing pipework, and compressor servicing. Experience working within confined spaces and carrying out a wide range of general maintenance and repair activities is also beneficial. Overall, the successful candidate will be someone who brings strong technical capability, practical experience across multiple maintenance disciplines, and the ability to work safely and effectively in a tightly regulated environment.
