Lawn Lane, Springfield, Chelmsford. CM1 7JB

Contract & Working Hours

  • Permanent – Full Time
  • 40 hours per week (including on-call responsibilities)

Salary

£13.55 to £16.61 per hour, dependent on experience

About the Care Home

Nestled in a quiet residential spot in Chelmsford, our facility provides:

Job Overview

As a Maintenance Operative, your role is central to ensuring that our facilities remain well-functioning, safe, and comfortable for residents.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining buildings, equipment, and grounds
  • Ensuring safety, compliance, and cleanliness with Health & Safety regulations, Legionella Risk Assessments, and Fire Authority requirements
  • Expediting repairs, refurbishments, and maintenance with minimal disruption to residents and staff
  • Overseeing planned maintenance systems and record-keeping
  • Managing Bupa compliance digital tools and monitoring assigned tasks
  • Co-operating with contractors to assign and resolve defects
  • Implementing paint, decorate, and minor home improvements

Occasionally, you may provide support to another local care home if needed (within 1 hour of your workplace).

Key Responsibilities

Operational Duties

  • Conduct regular health & safety compliance checks using Bupa’s systems
  • Resolve and record maintenance and environmental issues promptly
  • Ensure resident preferences for their private spaces are met and documented
  • Coordinate C corrosion repairs and staged refurbishments, minimising disruption

Technical & Compliance

  • Maintain knowledge of Bupa Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements
  • Safely manage c tools, equipment, and materials to prevent losses or damages
  • Assist with emergency training for new colleagues, including evacuation drills

Cross-Home Support

  • Provide maintenance to other local care homes when necessary

Key Skills & Qualifications

Ideal candidates should have: ✅ A solid understanding of building services, including:

  • Heating, hot/cold-water systems
  • Ventilation and electrical distribution
  • Plumbing and building fabric maintenance ✅ Practical experience with planned maintenance record-keeping ✅ Hands-on experience or certifications in:
  • Building, electrical, or plumbing (City & Guilds or equivalent)
  • Investing
  • Minimum 3 years in property maintenance (Qualifications or experience may substitute) ✅ Full UK/US driving licence (for travel between facilities) ✅ Computer proficiency

Desirable/Preferred:

  • Strong customer service and adaptability
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
