Maintenance Operative AASC – Preston & Fylde
Role Overview
Location: Preston & Fylde Working Hours: Full-time (37.5 hours/week), flexible Mon–Fri (08:00–18:00) Salary: £27,500 – £33,500 per annum (depending on experience and skills), plus Serco benefits Key Requirements:
- Must hold a full UK driving licence
- Vehicle and tools provided
- Out-of-hours on-call duties (4-5 times per year, 8–10 week rotating rota)
At Serco, we partner with Asylum Accommodation and Support Services (AASC) to support individuals through the asylum process, including providing temporary accommodation. As a Maintenance Operative, you will play a crucial role in maintaining high standards across our property portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out reactive and proactive repairs (manufactured by managers) to meet SLA deadlines
- Undertake joinery, fitting, plumbing, painting, and decorating tasks to ensure properties are safe and functional
- Prioritise and manage your workload independently, as well as collaborate with teams as needed
- Health & Safety compliance: Ensure self-safety and user safety in properties pre- and post-work
- Purchasing responsibilities: Procure and manage materials using a Serco-approved company card
- Vehicle maintenance: Keep company vehicles clean and well-maintained (regular inspections)
- Ensure properties meet quality standards for occupancy and appearance

Person Specification
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven maintenance experience (preferably in joinery, plumbing, decorating, or fitting)
- Able to self-manage tasks efficiently
- Good route-planning and time-management skills (travel may be required within the UK)
- Attention to detail and understanding of health & safety regulations
- Security clearance (Gov UK check required for all new starters)
- Willingness to work flexibly and unpredictably (out-of-hours coverage)

- Highly motivated, proactive self-starter
- Troubleshooting ability to diagnose and resolve technical challenges
- Strong work ethic for emergency on-call duties
- Customer-focused mindset (properties must meet standards for vulnerable users)
