Maintenance Operative
Location: AASC – Rochdale, Bury and Middleton Hours: Full-time (37.5 hrs/week) Salary: £27,500 - £33,500 per annum (depending on experience and skills) plus Serco benefits

At Serco, we collaborate with Asylum Accommodation and Support Services (AASC) to assist individuals navigating the asylum system, including providing temporary accommodation.
About the Role
As the Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring all repairs—whether reactive, proactive, or pre-planned—are carried out to the required standard and within SLA deadlines.
This role covers Wigan and requires previous experience in fields like joinery, fitting, plumbing, and painting & decorating. You must be a highly motivated individual capable of managing your own workflow, as well as working collaboratively in a team when necessary.
You’ll be responsible for the health and safety of yourself and property users during and after works are completed.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out all requested repairs (including emergency, scheduled, and maintenance tasks) to the required standard
- Ensure tasks are completed within Service Level Agreement (SLA) deadlines
- Procure and manage materials using a company account card from approved Serco suppliers
- Maintain vehicles in a professional and clean condition (inspections conducted by employees)
- Maintain accurate records of projects, expenses, and maintenance undertaken

experiencia Requirements
- Valid full UK driving licence is essential
- Demonstrated maintenance experience in areas like joinery, plumbing, fitting, painting & decorating
- Ability to work flexibly between 08:00–18:00 (Mon–Fri)
- Willingness to travel within the region and occasionally UK-wide
- All offers of employment subject to security clearance checks
Work Pattern
- Standard hours: 7.5 hours per day (Mon–Fri) to meet business needs
- On-call responsibility: Emergencies covered once every 8–10 weeks on rotation (rotational out-of-hours support)
