Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter
Tendley Quarry and Asphalt Plant, Cockermouth, Cumbria
Are you a skilled Mechanical Fitter who enjoys solving problems, tackling breakdowns and keeping heavy plant running at its best?
We're looking for a hands-on Mechanical Maintenance Plant Fitter to join our engineering team at Tarmac Tendley Quarry and Asphalt Plant. If you have experience working on conveyors, crushers, screens, pumps, gearboxes or similar industrial equipment and take pride in delivering high-quality maintenance then this could be the role for you!
This is an opportunity to work in a varied, fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. You'll play a vital role in maintaining critical plant equipment, improving reliability and helping to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
What You'll Be Doing
As part of the site's engineering team, you will:
- Diagnose faults and carry out planned and reactive maintenance
- Respond to breakdowns and deliver effective repair solutions
- Complete welding, fabrication and general mechanical fitting tasks
- Support plant improvement projects and reliability initiatives
- Work safely, following risk assessments and company procedures
- Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS system

- A strong mechanical maintenance background within quarrying, manufacturing, heavy industry, mining, aggregates or a similar environment
- Experience working on conveyors, crushers, vibrating screens, gearboxes, motors, pumps or related plant equipment
- Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
- Experience carrying out breakdown and preventative maintenance activities
- Good IT skills and confidence using maintenance systems
- A recognised Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship
- ONC/HNC qualifications (desirable but not essential)
- A strong commitment to health, safety and continuous improvement
The role is easily commutable from Workington, Keswick, Whitehaven, Troutbeck, Grasmere, Penrith, Carlisle and surrounding areas.
