Maintenance Plumber & Gas Engineer — Birmingham
Salary: £35,000 – £40,000 per year (GBP) Vacancy Type: Permanent
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Plumber and Gas Engineer to join our team at Orton Group. The ideal candidate will install, maintain, and repair plumbing and gas systems across both commercial and residential properties, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance with industry regulations. This is a hands-on, responsibility-filled role for those who thrive in a dynamic maintenance environment.
About the Role

You’ll handle a range of technical tasks while adhering to health & safety protocols and legal requirements. Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail are essential to prevent escalation and ensure system longevity.
Key Responsibilities
Plumbing & Gas Systems
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and plumbing systems in compliance with safety regulations.
- Carry out gas safety checks, installations, and repairs, following legal requirements and manufacturer specifications.
- Perform routine inspections to identify potential issues early.

Technical & Practical Work
- Use hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and carpentry skills for maintenance tasks.
- Assisted heavy lifting of materials and equipment for installations or repairs.
- Contribute to new installations and refurbishments as needed.
Safety & Record-Keeping
- Adhere to health and safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain detailed records of work performed, parts used, and inspections.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all team members.
Essential Requirements
Technical Skills & Experience
- Proven experience and qualifications in plumbing and gas engineering (certifications required).
- Proficiency in welding techniques and use of hand/power tools.
- Strong mechanical knowledge of plumbing systems, gas appliances, and general maintenance equipment.
- Ability to perform carpentry work when necessary.
- Safe handling of heavy lifting while maintaining ergonomic best practices.
- Experience with commercial driving (a plus for site mobility).
