Maintenance, Reliability & Projects Superintendent

Joining the Venture Global Ship Management (VGSM) team in London, you will hold a fundamental position in a team that manages the in-house owned and managed vessels.
The Maintenance, Reliability & Projects Superintendent, Ship Management will be responsible for the planning, development, execution, and continuous improvement of the company’s planned and unplanned maintenance systems, machinery performance management and various project scopes of variable scale, ensuring reliability, compliance, and performance across the fleet.
Primary Objective
Develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s maintenance, reliability, and project delivery frameworks to maximise vessel reliability, availability, safety, and regulatory compliance while optimising fleet OPEX and CAPEX.
The Maintenance, Reliability & Projects Superintendent is responsible for fleet-wide maintenance strategy, PMS optimisation, reliability programmes, support to Technical Superintendents during dry docks and the delivery of technical projects in support of the Company’s operational and commercial objectives.
Qualifications
- Senior Officer Certificate of Competency, or an undergraduate degree in a relevant maritime field.
- Advanced Gas Tanker endorsement – preferred.
Experience
- 5 years’ experience in maintenance management, reliability engineering, technical superintendency, or technical project management within the maritime industry.
- Previous LNG carrier experience - preferred.
- Demonstrable experience managing dry-dock planning/support activities, major modifications, PMS optimisation, and reliability programmes.
- Proven track record of reducing unplanned maintenance, improving equipment reliability, and delivering technical projects within budget and schedule constraints.
- Hands-on experience with MariApps PAL ERP system (or equivalent ERP/PMS platform), Power BI and technical data analysis systems.
- Ability to accurately prepare daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports.

Core Competencies
- Reliability-centred maintenance and lifecycle management, including root-cause analysis, risk-based maintenance, and KPI-driven optimisation.
- Technical project and dry-dock support management, covering planning, budgeting, execution support, contractor coordination, and close-out.
- Advanced PMS and ERP system expertise, including maintenance strategy development, master-data management, and MOC controls.
- Strong analytical and reporting capability, with experience developing technical dashboards, trend analysis, and performance reporting.
- Effective stakeholder management and communication with shipboard personnel, senior management, shipyards, class societies, and external vendors.
- Continuous-improvement mindset with the ability to drive operational efficiency, reliability enhancement, and long-term cost optimisation across the fleet.
Role Responsibilities
Maintenance & Reliability Management
- Develop, optimise, and govern fleet-wide PMS strategies, maintenance routines, equipment master data, and Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Monitor maintenance KPIs, analyse recurring defects and equipment trends, and implement reliability-driven corrective and preventive actions.
- Conduct maintenance audits, develop company procedures and work instructions, and support vessel teams through targeted training and technical guidance.
Condition Monitoring & LTSA Oversight
- Oversee fleet condition-monitoring programmes, remote monitoring systems, and technical trend analysis to support proactive maintenance and reliability improvement.
- Supervise the implementation and performance of LTSAs for major plant and machinery systems, ensuring contractual performance and operational effectiveness.
- Identify reliability risks, validate vessel condition reviews, and develop corrective maintenance strategies based on operational and analytical data.
Dry-Dock & Technical Project Support
- Support Technical Superintendents with dry-dock planning, technical work specifications, contractor coordination, and execution support activities.
- Review, propose and manage technical modification projects, equipment upgrades, and retrofit initiatives, ensuring compliance with Company, class, and flag requirements.
- Develop project plans, risk assessments, and technical reviews, ensuring lessons learned and project deliverables are incorporated into fleet maintenance systems and documentation.

New-Build & Technical Development Support
- Support new-build and fleet-development activities through technical reviews, equipment selection, and lifecycle cost analysis.
- Develop technical procurement packages, equipment specifications, and integration requirements for new and modified systems.
- Ensure all technical documentation, as-built records, spare-part data and training materials are reviewed, updated, and properly distributed.
Financial & Strategic Responsibilities
- Support annual OPEX and CAPEX budgeting activities, including maintenance forecasting, project expenditure tracking, and variance analysis.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimisation, lifecycle improvement, and long-term reliability enhancement across the fleet.
- Support vendor evaluations, technical bid reviews, contract negotiations, and strategic maintenance initiatives.
Systems, Reporting & Data Management
- Develop and maintain maintenance reporting systems, Power BI dashboards, and technical performance analytics.
- Champion digitisation initiatives to improve technical data quality and operational visibility.
- Maintain controlled technical records, PMS documentation, project and reliability-trend databases.
Work Conditions
This role will be performed in both an office environment and onboard company vessels.
- When not traveling on company business, this role requires office attendance 5 days/week.
- Up to 20% national/international travel can be expected each year, attending vessels/facilities and training opportunities.
- Successful candidates must be able to board an LNG tanker ship via gangway and/or pilot ladder.
- While performing the duties of this job, successful candidates will work indoors & outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environments, and noise.
