Hours: Full time: 35 hours per week
Type: Permanent

The Post – REQ000588 - Maintenance Services Manager

The Maintenance Services Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of building fabric maintenance, water hygiene compliance and associated estate maintenance services across the University estate. Reporting to the Operations Manager (Technical), the postholder will lead a team of Trade Technicians, the Compliance Technician and specialist contractors to deliver planned preventative maintenance, reactive repairs, minor works and statutory compliance activities in a safe, efficient and customer-focused manner. A key aspect of the role is ensuring the University's water hygiene programme is effectively managed and fully compliant with ACOP L8, HSG274 and all relevant legislation and University procedures.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across the Estates team, the successful candidate will oversee contractor performance, manage maintenance programmes and resources, and contribute to operational planning, sustainability initiatives and continuous service improvement. The role requires strong leadership, operational decision-making and the ability to manage maintenance incidents, compliance risks and service disruptions effectively. Participation in the Estates Management Standby Rota is an essential requirement, providing out-of-hours leadership and support in response to emergencies, critical infrastructure failures and other operational incidents. The postholder must also be able to travel between University campuses as required to support service delivery across the estate.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
