About the Role
We are looking for someone to join our Roost on a full-time permanent basis, with the successful candidate working 5 days out of 7 between 8am & 6pm. Our new Maintenance Supervisor will be leading our experienced and friendly maintenance team in Liverpool.
Hours – 37.5 hours per week, working 5 days out of 7 between 8am and 8pm
Location – Student Roost Liverpool Properties
Salary – £32,960 per annum
Are you a skilled Maintenance leader, with experience in driving a team of individuals to be the best they can be? You may be our new Maintenance Supervisor supporting the team in Liverpool to ensure Student Roost is the Leader in Student Housing.
No two properties in our portfolio are the same and this can also be said of our team of Caretakers. Our new supervisor will be the point of escalation for all aspects of maintenance in the city, supporting and leading the team through more complex repair works and larger projects.
Our Maintenance Supervisors take pride in ensuring our properties are fully compliant with all relative legislation, liaising with our Estates and Health and Safety teams and onboarding new Caretakers on site, making certain they fully confident in carrying out planned preventative maintenance and compliance checks.

You’ll Be Someone We Can Count On To
OWN
- You will be a central point of support for the Maintenance team in the City. Line managing the city caretakers and ensuring that the teams are confident to carry out routine repair works and PPMs.
- Provide assistance and work closely with our Operations Managers and Estates Team on all aspects of on-site maintenance and compliance.
- As a skilled technician, you will own certain maintenance works that have been escalated to you from the site teams or our estates teams—managing and coordinating the works through to completion.
- Take the lead on roll-out of new statutory maintenance and compliance works at site, creating and implementing schedules that work for the teams and our residents.
- A key part of this role is upskilling caretakers sharing knowledge and practical skills to build a capable, multi-skilled team and reduce reliance on external contractors wherever possible.
DO
- Adopt a consistent and unrelenting approach to ensuring that the properties in your remit are safe, through managing the site teams accurate and detailed compliance checks and swift reporting of non-compliance.
- Work with the site teams to diagnose and resolve maintenance issues quickly and efficiently, knowing when escalation to a third-party contractor is required.
- Day to day on the tools involvement with PPM and Reactive maintenance alongside wider responsibilities.
- Coordinate the teams efforts—Different challenges arise at different points of the academic year. You will coordinate works and projects to align with the business needs for each site at the optimum time.
- Assess and challenge unnecessary outsourcing by identifying maintenance and compliance remedial works that can be completed internally by the maintenance team where appropriate.

LEARN

We never walk past a problem, and you will take pride in ensuring the Maintenance Team in your city are the best they can be, with a strong focus on customer service, attention to detail and a respectful approach that comes with working in someone’s home.
- Keep up to date with Best Practice and legislative updates through continuous professional development.
- Build strong working relationships with our stakeholders—liaising with external Facilities Management providers and Risk Assessment agencies as well as third party contractors.
- Become the City expert in our Maintenance reporting app, understanding how to optimise the reporting functions and relay this information to your colleagues in the city.
COLLABORATE
- Work closely with the Health and Safety Team to ensure best practice is always adhered to.
- Build strong relationships with your colleagues in the Estates Team, coordinating outsourced jobs and assessing the work of the on-site maintenance team and third-party contractors.
- You will be a key part of the Operations team within the City and as such, assist the Operations Managers with all aspects of on site maintenance.

Psst… there are some challenges too
Health and Safety legislation is constantly evolving. Ensuring we stay ahead of Fire, Water and Electrical safety measures, and that the teams are completing the checks accurately is no small task.
It’s not all shiny. Our Maintenance Supervisor will also get stuck in with challenges facing the on site teams which may include waste disposal management, pest control issues and drainage problems. It can be dirty work.
Summer turn can be challenging and fun in equal measure. The teams often work extended hours over this time and our Maintenance Supervisors are expected to always lead by example.

It’s going to be an exciting journey so we thought we’d give you some insight into what you can expect to do and learn in the first six months of your role.
Within…
1 month
- You will start to understand the culture and values of Student Roost.
- You will be getting to know your city team and their routines for daily and weekly compliance checks.
- You will begin understanding the larger maintenance works and more complex repairs on your sites.
- You will be building up familiarity with our software and web apps.
3 months
- You will have met and built strong high-quality relationships with your team, central support services and stakeholders.
- You have familiarity of each building in your remit and have a clear understanding of the varying needs of each property in your remit in terms of compliance and maintenance.
- You are using the relevant software and web apps to confidently log, extract and relay information.
6 months
- You will be well underway to being settled, with a fountain of knowledge and ideas to make certain the properties in your City are in ship-shape.
- You know which projects need to be scheduled around the academic year cycle and are confident liaising with all members of the Student Roost team, our senior leaders, and stakeholders.
- You have an engaged maintenance team within the city who are confident in their roles and ready for action should an emergency maintenance need arise.
