Senior Reliability Maintenance Engineer Technician

Location: Daventry, UK

About the Role

Our Reliability Maintenance Engineering (RME) team plays a pivotal role in Amazon’s commitment to innovation. This team ensures our tools and technologies evolve alongside Amazon to maintain high standards and drive continuous improvement. As a Senior RME Technician, you'll focus on adopting emerging technologies, refining processes, and elevating our operational standards.

In this role:

  • Stay ahead of technological advancements
  • Monitor key processes to sustain top-tier standards
  • Implement upgrades and improvements to enhance system efficiency

Key Responsibilities

  • Safety Compliance & Training

    • Model best practices for safe equipment usage and monitor teams to ensure adherence to protocols
  • Equipment Performance & Maintenance

    • Track performance through visual checks, condition-based monitoring, and preventative maintenance tasks
    • Schedule additional servicing as needed
  • Technical Leadership & Support

    • Supervise technicians on shifts, provide hands-on support, or act as the go-to contact for Reliability Maintenance Engineers
    • Lead teams to ensure all personnel have the necessary equipment and it’s operating correctly
  • Problem-Solving & Downtime Reduction

    • Address equipment issues quickly to minimise operational downtime and maximise package processing efficiency
  • Process Improvement & Standardisation

    • Contribute to identifying improvements and standardising EU-wide maintenance processes

A Day in the Life

Here’s what your typical shift involves:

  • Leading cross-functional teams to maintain equipment and ensure smooth operations
  • Monitoring compliance with regulations and policies
  • Ensuring preventative maintenance is performed to maximise uptime
  • Offering actionable ideas to enhance system efficiency across the entire EU network
  • Utilising tools like SCADA for process monitoring
  • Collaborating closely with management on administrative tasks

About the Team

The RME team is Amazon’s backbone for maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical machinery in our fulfilment centres. The team supports diverse functions:

  • Technical oversight of systems, equipment, and facilities
  • Ensuring legal safety and operational compliance
  • Repairing key distribution equipment and staying ahead with innovations
  • Proactively minimising downtime to meet customer expectations

There’s continuous growth within this team, including the possibility of overseeing cutting-edge projects and advancing to more senior technical roles.


Basic Qualifications

Before applying, ensure you meet these:

  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • NVQ Level 3/SVQ Level 3/IVQ Level 3/City & Guilds Level 3/EAL Level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics
  • Certifications/Apprenticeships:
    • 4 years of UK certified apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics
    • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics OR completion of a 4-year UK certified apprenticeship (equivalent to NVQ Level 3)
  • Shift Work Readiness:
    • Availability for flexible shifts, including weekends, nights, and holidays
  • Core Technical Experience:
    • Familiarity with:
      • Automated conveyor systems and industrial controls
      • Preventative maintenance and equipment scheduling
      • Schematics/blueprints, PLC programs
      • Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for proactive and reactive tasks
      • Electrical codes (NEC), conveyor operations
  • Leadership: Experience in a technical leadership role
  • Multidisciplinary Knowledge: Proficiency in both electrical and mechanical fields, preferably in automation/material handling environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechatronics or related technical field
  • Alignment with CIMA Compliant Engineering Practice & OEMs standards
  • Experience in:
    • Vendor management
    • Robotic maintenance
    • Leading engineering teams as a mentor or tech lead
    • Maintenance of material handling equipment (MHE) and its safety protocols
  • Technical Transactions:
    • Proficiency in process documentation for compliance and maintenance
    • Understanding of PLC-based control systems
  • Preferred Educational Background: A degree (preferably in a technical discipline, e.g., Mechanical Engineering, Operations)
