Maintenance Technician at Tesco (Stevenage & Surrounding Areas)

About the Role

As a Maintenance Technician at Tesco across Stevenage and the surrounding areas, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stores remain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues alike. You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems and equipment, helping to keep our operations running smoothly.

Your work will directly impact the shopping experience of thousands of customers every day. You’ll use your technical expertise to identify and resolve issues efficiently, always prioritising safety, compliance, and quality.

This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards. Responsibilities

As a Maintenance Technician, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Confidently interacting with external contractors to coordinate seamless repairs
  • Working collaboratively with the team, prioritising quality service
  • Maintaining high energy while efficiently juggling multiple tasks
  • Assisting the management team to keep stores operating smoothly
  • Minimizing customer disruption by coordinating repairs strategically

Specific duties will encompass:

  • Ensuring all Tesco sites are safe and functional for customers and colleagues
  • Following scheduled work plans to achieve first-time fixes, improving efficiency and effectiveness
  • Collaborating with team members to share best practices and knowledge
  • Conducting general daily store and property maintenance
  • Utilising mobile devices (phones, tablets) to optimise work completion and provide updates
  • Representing the Tesco brand, embodying core values like customer, community, and environmental responsibility
  • Attending local and national meetings to provide valuable input and feedback
  • Supporting a diverse and inclusive culture

Requirements

To excel in this role, you will need:

  • Enthusiasm for maintaining high standards
  • Previous experience in maintenance, engineering, or construction environments
  • Digital confidence, including proficiency with a tablet to access work schedules and manage emails

Key Qualifications:

  • ONC or equivalent qualification
  • Full driving licence
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • Maintenance training completion (through upskilling modules relevant to your abilities)

Soft Skills:

  • Effective communication and collaboration
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office 365
