Job Description

The Role

We are seeking dedicated Maintenance Technicians to join our team at Hitachi Rail UK Limited in London. This permanent maintenance role involves performing scheduled servicing and repairs on Class 800 rolling stock for the Intercity Express Programme on the East Coast Main Line.

You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, contributing to flush-of-the-art fleet maintenance with a commitment to continuous improvement. This role requires travel to testing locations, mainline stations, and outstations for maintenance as needed, and occasional overnight requisitions.

Key Accountabilities

  • Scheduled Maintenance:
    • Perform maintenance and servicing on Class 800 rolling stock according to vehicle maintenance instructions.
    • Drive trains within the depot in adherence to operating procedures.

  • Fleet and Process Support:

    • Actively contribute to maintenance process improvement initiatives.
    • Support new train completions, including maintenance acceptance processes.
    • Conduct basic fault rectification/repair and ensure exam tasks are completed on time.
  • Safety & Compliance:

    • Full adherence to health and safety regulations and operational systems.
  • ** technical Skills and Reporting**

    • Record work activities and stock consumption within the maintenance management system.
  • Shift-Based Responsibilities:

    • Provide coverage to meet the production plan of shift operators and management.
    • Flexible allocation of duties to meet service requirements.

Requirements

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience in a 24/7 shift schedule, preferably in a modern rolling stock maintenance depot.

  • Proven safety awareness within a railway engineering environment.

  • Working knowledge of:

    • Vehicle servicing and stabling operations (including mainline station support).
    • Fault diagnosis and repair procedures (diagnostic systems, company LMS).
    • Mechanics of electrical, pneumatic, mechanical systems (reading schematics/drawings).
  • NVQ Level 2/3 (mechanical or electrical disciplines) and a served apprenticeship in related fields.

  • Interest in upskilling: Commitment to:

    • Advanced fault-finding and our internal school of engineering processes.
    • Evaluating reliability data, available trend mapping analysis.
  • Personal competencies:

    • Diplomatic and calm under pressure in dynamic, shift-based environments.
    • Excellent written/verbal communication with internal/external stakeholders.
    • Loyal, confident, and determined in delivering responsibilities.

Nice-to-have (but not mandatory):

  • Past work resistance training on complex faults.
  • An intermediate level of office technologies: MS Office (Word, Excel), Outlook, PowerPoint.
  • Additional certifications or history of:
    • Vocational train driving or ageral (self-sufficient mobility).
    • Navigation to network rules (a specialisation welcome) and Joint Services Interventions are familiarised.
    • Fire Warden, First Aid, powered plant/operational tools competency.

Pink-Slip Consent Required:

  • Certificate Sentinel PTS (if applicable); In-house Participation is crucial to a successful onboard entryment.
