Maintenance Technician – Blackburn, Preston & Surrounding Areas

About the Role

As a Maintenance Technician at Tesco across Blackburn, Preston and surrounding areas, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our stores remain a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for customers and colleagues. You’ll be part of a skilled team responsible for carrying out planned and reactive maintenance across a range of systems and equipment, helping to keep our operations running smoothly.

Your work will directly impact the shopping experience of thousands of customers every day. You’ll use your technical expertise to identify and resolve issues efficiently, always prioritising safety, compliance, and quality.

This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive mindset, strong problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering high standards. Responsibilities

As the Maintenance Technician, your key responsibilities will include:

  • Collaborating with external contractors to coordinate repairs seamlessly
  • Working closely with your team to ensure high-quality service delivery
  • Maintaining high energy levels to manage tasks efficiently
  • Assisting the management team in keeping stores operational
  • Minimising customer disruption by planning repairs strategically

Key Tasks

  • Ensuring all Tesco sites are safe, functional environments for customers and staff
  • Following the planned work schedule to achieve first-time fixes, improving efficiency
  • Sharing best practices with colleagues and fostering knowledge exchange
  • Performing general store and property maintenance
  • Using mobile devices (phone/tablet) to track work progress and updates
  • Representing the Tesco brand by embodying core values—serving customers, communities, and the planet better
  • Attending local/regional meetings to provide input and feedback
  • Supporting a diverse and inclusive work culture

Requirements

To excel in this role, you’ll need:

Technical & Operational Skills

  • ONC (or equivalent) qualification
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Health & Safety awareness
  • Familiarity with Office 365
  • Completion of relevant training modules

Personal Attributes

  • Previous experience in maintenance, engineering, or construction
  • Digital confidence (ability to manage schedules, emails, and tablets)
  • Problem-solving mindset
  • Proactive and collaborative attitude
