Maintenance Technician - Estates

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC)

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

Shift Pattern

The shift pattern for this post is:

  • Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 16:00
  • 15:30 on a Friday or 5 week shift rota

Mechanical Position

Job Description

Glasgow Royal Infirmary requires a Multi-Skilled Maintenance Technician (Mechanical) to join the Operational Estates team to carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance across the hospital campus.

Requirements

  • Must be a time-served mechanical engineer.
  • Completed a recognized mechanical apprenticeship.
  • Qualified to SVQ/HNC level (or currently working towards this qualification).
  • Minimum of 5 years post-apprenticeship experience.

Responsibilities

While the primary role of the post holder will be to carry out mechanical tasks, they will be part of a multi-skilled technical team and will be responsible for the delivery of specialist technical services for a wide range of duties in relation to all disciplines of building services, including, but not limited to, plumbing, HVAC, building, and electrical systems. It is essential that the post holder accepts a wide range of cross trade duties post training to deliver a high standard of service, whilst planning and prioritising their workload.

  • Completed a recognized electrical apprenticeship.
  • Qualified to SVQ/HNC level.

Pay and Hours

  • As from 1st April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
