Job Description: Your Work Shapes the World at Caterpillar Inc.

When you join Caterpillar, you're joining a global team who cares not just about the work we do – but also about each other. We are the makers, problem solvers, and future world builders who are creating stronger, more sustainable communities. We don't just talk about progress and innovation here – we make it happen, with our customers, where we work and live. Together, we are building a better world, so we can all enjoy living in it.

Caterpillar's Desford Paint Facility is seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to support our manufacturing operations through dedicated weekend maintenance coverage (Fri, Sat, Sun). This role has been created to increase planned preventative maintenance activities, improve equipment reliability, and minimise unplanned downtime across our paint and production facilities.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities on paint facility equipment, machinery, and associated infrastructure.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing equipment reliability and reducing downtime.
  • Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults where appropriate.
  • Complete maintenance inspections and asset condition assessments.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately documented within the site's maintenance management system.
  • Support statutory inspections and compliance-related maintenance activities.
  • Work closely with production, engineering, and reliability teams to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and always promote a culture of safety.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Caterpillar health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Undertake training/further learning as required.

NB. The panel cannot make assumptions when shortlisting therefore please demonstrate your qualifications and experience on your CV relevant to the criteria outlined.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
