About This Role
In this hourly, remote contractor role, you will work as a Maltese Quality Assurance Lead to oversee quality, consistency, and trainer performance across Maltese AI training projects.
You will:
- Review AI-generated Maltese content and trainer/QA work
- Evaluate output quality against project guidelines, ensuring adherence to accuracy, fluency, grammar, spelling, tone, and cultural appropriateness
- Provide precise written feedback while maintaining instruction-following consistency
- Address meaning preservation, formatting, and adherence to project-specific rubrics
Key Focus Areas
- Identifying recurring quality issues
- Communicating updates to trainers and QAs on expectations
- Supporting onboarding and maintaining harmony within contributor teams
- Activating contributors who are not consistently engaging
Company Background
This role is with SME Careers, a fast-growing AI Data Services company and Subsidiary of SuperAnnotate. You will support projects for some of the world’s largest AI companies and foundation-model labs. By ensuring high-quality Maltese training data, your contributions will improve natural, accurate, and culturally appropriate outcomes in AI models.
Critical Note
There is no immediate project for this role; however, qualified candidates will be first in line for future opportunities. Participation in this role also grants access to align with future Maltese-language AI training projects via the company’s expert network.

Your Profile
To excel in this role, you must meet the following criteria:

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in:
- Maltese
- Linguistics
- Translation
- Communications
- Journalism
- English
- Education
- Quality Assurance
- Or a closely related field

Native or near-native Maltese proficiency with excellent reading and writing skills

A strong grasp of English to:
- Follow project guidelines
- Communicate effectively using tools like Discord and Google platforms
- Provide clear and structured quality feedback

3+ years of experience in:
- Maltese content revision
- Editing, translation, localization, or QA workflows
- AI training or data annotation
- Quality assurance for language-related projects

Deep familiarity with:
- Maltese grammar, spelling conventions, punctuation rules, diacritics, and Semitic/Romance-influenced structures
- Cultural context and tone registers, including:
- Mosaic language styles
- Correct application of code-switching
- Preservation of tone authenticity in varied settings

Ability to:
- Evaluate Maltese content against rubric guidelines
- Detect mistranslation, homogeneous phrasing, hallucinated content, and terminology inconsistencies

Preferred:
- Experience leading or supporting remote teams (e.g., trainers, annotators, QAs).
- Familiarity with process improvement and scalability of AI training workflows.
- Experience using project management tools, Google Docs, Google Sheets & Discord.

Key Responsibilities
Quality Monitoring
- Spot-check Maltese items for flaws in quality, grammar, and syntactic fidelity.
- Provide detailed, ongoing written explanations in DMs and group discussions.
- Escalate critical or recurring quality issues to relevant stakeholders.
Trainer and QA Communication
- Update trainers and QAs about updates via Discord or equivalent channels:
- New item guidelines
- Project adjustments
- Workflow improvements
Question Handling
- Provide clear and timely responses to queries related to:
- Maltese grammar, diacritics, and tone
- Semitic(-)Romance linguistic blending
- Cultural appropriateness and terminology
Trainer/QA Activation Management
- Identify inactive contributors.
- Encourage regular engagement through digital check-ins.
- Track follow-ups and flag availability challenges.
Documentation & Onboarding
- Develop style guides, trackers, and FAQs tailored to Maltese-language projects.
- Maintain documentation exemplars, quality notes, honeypots, and onboarding materials.
- Conduct training schedules and call workshops for Maltese-specific guidelines, rubric expectations, and workflow processes.
Quality Alignment & Process Improvement
- Ensure congruency of Maltese guidelines across teams.
- Propose workflow adjustments to streamline quality control processes for Maltese-language AI annotation tasks.
- Foster collaboration and accountability among contributors to reimagine and refine quality benchmarks.
