Management Accountant (12 month FTC)

Management Accountant (12-Month Fixed Term Contract)

Birmingham | £35,000 - £40,000 Per Annum | Hybrid Working

Our client is a large, high-performing education provider based in Birmingham, with a strong track record, seeking a Management Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term contract.


** About the Role**

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant will support and lead critical accounting functions, including:

  • Management accounting cycle for central office budgets:

    • Budgeting
    • Forecasting
    • Monthly reporting
  • Line-management responsibility for the purchase ledger team:

    • Regular one-to-one meetings
    • Team guidance
  • Audit liaison:

    • Primary contact for external auditors
    • Resolution of audit queries
  • Financial controls & reconciliation:

    • Robust balance sheet oversight
    • Bank reconciliations
    • Annual reconciliation processes
  • Cash and treasury management, including:

    • BACS payment checks
    • Managing faster payments

  • Tax compliance:

    • Preparation of quarterly VAT returns
    • Maintaining HMRC relationships
  • Specialist asset management:

    • Overseeing investment portfolios, property assets, special funds, and endowments
    • Maintaining the fixed asset register and depreciation schedules

Person Specification & Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Qualification: AAT qualified or higher
  • Sector experience: Preference for education, charity, or not-for-profit background
  • Audit experience: Strong track record in year-end processes and auditor interactions
  • Team management: Previous staff management experience
  • Technical expertise:
    • Property/investment accounting knowledge (highly desirable)
    • Experience with PS Financials (highly desirable)
  • Availability: Able to start within 1-2 weeks
