We're mid-way through a genuine finance transformation — a Snowflake/Power BI data platform, Business Central automation and an AI-enabled finance programme — and we're looking for a Management Accountant who wants to build, not just process.

About us

Bright & Shade Group (formerly TCMM Shutter Group) specialises in made-to-measure and DIY window shutters and blinds across B2C and B2B markets. Founded in 2002 with flagship retail brand Shutterly Fabulous, we've grown into a portfolio of ecommerce brands operating in the UK and North America, including Swift and Make My Blinds, with partnerships spanning John Lewis and B&Q. In 2021 we were acquired by Mzuri Group, a pioneering force in the window coverings market.

We're a growing, ambitious team based in Brighton, blending a casual office environment with a sharp focus on doing great work. Autonomy is encouraged, curiosity is celebrated, and humility is part of how we work with each other every day.

The role

You'll be the Management Accountant for our eCom Shutters brand family (The Shutter Store, California Shutters, DIY Shutters), reporting to the Financial Controller and working alongside a finance team of six. The group operates around twelve brands across multiple entities, and while this role anchors to one brand family, there's genuine opportunity to work across the wider portfolio as the role develops.

You'll own the month-end and reporting cycle for your brands, take a leading role in statutory accounts, audit and VAT across the group, and use your technical skills to strip manual effort out of everything you touch. As automation lands, the role deliberately shifts toward commercial finance: product margin analysis, reforecasting and business partnering with brand leads.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll do

  • Prepare monthly management accounts for the eCom Shutters entities, with variance analysis and commentary against budget, forecast and prior year
  • Own the cross-brand shutter margin analysis, developing it into a structured monthly product margin discipline at SKU and category level
  • Take a lead role in statutory accounts (FRS 102), external audit deliverables and balance sheet controls for your entities
  • Prepare VAT returns and support the group's wider tax and compliance calendar
  • Support the FY27 budget and quarterly reforecasting cycle, and help build a rolling cashflow forecast discipline
  • Redesign manual processes using Power Query, Power BI and automation tools — refreshable schedules, automated reconciliations, self-serve reporting — working with our data warehouse programme
  • Use AI tools actively in day-to-day work and help shape the finance team's AI ways of working, including sensible guardrails around review and data confidentiality
  • Partner with heads of department across e-commerce, marketing, IT and operations, delivering ad hoc analysis on pricing, margin and business scenarios

What you'll need

  • Qualified or finalist accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts, variance analysis and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Experience supporting statutory accounts preparation and the external audit process
  • Advanced Excel with working Power Query skills — or a track record of automating manual processes and the appetite to master Power Query quickly
  • Confident, hands-on use of AI tools (e.g. Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude) in everyday work, with sound judgement on reviewing outputs and handling confidential data
  • Proficiency with ERP software (ideally Dynamics NAV / Business Central)

Nice to have

  • Commercial finance experience in retail, e-commerce or direct-to-consumer
  • Practice-trained background; FRS 102 statutory accounts preparation; corporation tax exposure
  • Power BI report building (DAX, data modelling)
  • VBA / Office Scripts / Power Automate for process automation
  • Experience applying AI to finance processes — prompt-built automations, AI-assisted analysis, document/data extraction
  • Multi-entity or group structure exposure — intercompany, VAT groups, consolidation
  • SQL, or experience consuming data warehouse outputs (Snowflake or similar)

Who you are

A highly motivated self-starter with an automation-first mindset — genuine drive to improve processes, not just run them. Commercially curious: interested in margins, pricing and what moves the numbers, not only in reporting them. You communicate well, build trust with non-finance stakeholders, and manage your own time confidently across competing month-end and project deadlines.

What we offer

  • £45,000–£50,000 depending on experience, with workplace pension
  • 31 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays), increasing with long service
  • Hybrid working (3 days office) and flexi time
  • Life assurance and employee wellness programme
  • Staff discount on DIY or fully fitted window shutters
  • Educational assistance
  • Casual dress, free office refreshments (drinks and bagels), free on-site parking, social activities

The details

Permanent, full time — 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Based in Brighton & Hove with 3 days in the office and 2 from home.

If you're looking for a place where you can be yourself, do your best work, and be part of something exciting — we'd love to meet you.
