Management Accountant | Technical Accounting & Statutory Reporting
Location: Winchester Working Model: Hybrid Salary: £40,000–£45,000 + Excellent Benefits
Do you enjoy the technical side of finance as much as management accounting? We're recruiting for a technically strong Management Accountant to join a highly respected organisation in Winchester. This is a broad and rewarding opportunity that combines:
- Statutory accounts preparation
- Audit management
- Financial compliance
- Monthly management reporting
- Budgeting and financial analysis
Working closely with the Head of Finance, you’ll take ownership of statutory reporting across multiple entities, ensuring compliance with financial legislation while providing accurate management information to support strategic decision-making.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role involves:
Statutory Reporting & Financial Compliance
- Prepare annual statutory accounts across multiple entities
- Lead the year-end audit process and act as the primary contact for external auditors
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with Companies Act, Charity Act, VAT, Corporation Tax, and Gift Aid requirements
- Maintain robust financial controls and support regulatory compliance
- Prepare and review VAT returns and implement legislative changes where required

Management Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Complete month-end close activities including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Produce variance analysis and meaningful financial commentary
- Support cashflow reporting and financial modelling
- Prepare reports for senior leadership and key stakeholders
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger and financial records
Budgeting & Business Support
- Support the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against budget
- Provide financial analysis and scenario modelling to support business decisions
- Contribute to KPI reporting and performance reviews
Continuous Improvement
- Review financial procedures and controls to ensure best practice
- Support improvements to reporting processes and financial governance
- Contribute to wider finance projects and process enhancements
About You
Ideally, you'll be ACCA, ACA or CIMA qualified (or equivalent) with a strong grounding in both technical accounting and management reporting. You should bring:
- Experience preparing statutory accounts
- Experience managing external audits
- Strong management accounting experience, including month-end reporting
- Good knowledge of VAT and financial compliance
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Advanced Excel skills and confidence using finance systems
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to improving financial reporting
