Management Accountant

Management Accountant – Finance Team

About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Management Accountant to play a pivotal role within the finance team. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will support accurate financial reporting, insightful analysis, and robust financial controls. Responsibilities include managing month-end accounting activities, preparing management accounts, overseeing stock and WIP accounting, conducting cash flow forecasting, and supporting daily finance operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate will drive profitability, cash generation, and business performance by providing commercial and operational insights to senior management and investors.


Key Responsibilities

Management Accounts & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly management accounts accurately and within deadlines.
  • Contribute to detailed financial reports for senior management and private equity (PE) stakeholders.
  • Post month-end journals (including payroll, depreciation, and provisions).
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations, investigating variances.
  • Analyse financial performance against budgets, forecasts, and prior-year results.
  • Provide insightful commentary on financial trends and key business drivers.

Financial Analysis

  • Conduct in-depth sales performance and gross margin analysis.
  • Support profitability analysis by customer and product.
  • Identify financial trends, opportunities, and risks impacting business performance.
  • Deliver ad-hoc financial analysis to support strategic initiatives.

Stock, WIP & Provisions

  • Maintain accurate stock and work-in-progress (WIP) accounting.
  • Monitor stock valuation and movements.
  • Calculate and review stock provisions and reserves.
  • Assist with stock counts and inventory control.
  • Collaborate with operations to ensure correct recording of manufacturing costs.

Capital Expenditure (Capex)

  • Manage fixed asset and capital expenditure registers.
  • Track capital spending against approved budgets.
  • Ensure correct asset capitalisation and depreciation.
  • Produce capex reports and support investment appraisals.

Cash Management & Forecasting

  • Prepare and maintain short- and medium-term cash flow forecasts.
  • Monitor working capital performance.
  • Assist with banking activities and stakeholder relationships.

Finance Operations Support

  • Support the day-to-day running of the finance function.
  • Guide the Assistant Management Accountant, Purchase Ledger, and Credit Control.
  • Assist with year-end audit and statutory reporting requirements.

Business Partnering

  • Build strong relationships with operational and commercial teams.
  • Provide financial insights to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance and reporting processes.

Essential Skills & Attributes

✔ High attention to detail and accuracy. ✔ Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. ✔ Resilience under pressure and ability to handle confidential information. ✔ Advanced Excel and MS Office proficiency, plus adaptability to finance systems. ✔ Ability to analyse large financial and operational datasets. ✔ Self-motivated, able to work independently, and meet tight deadlines. ✔ Commercial awareness and business acumen. ✔ Knowledge of manufacturing costing and operational KPIs. ✔ Ability to thrive in a fast-paced PE-backed environment. ✔ First-hand experience with budgeting and forecasting.


Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • GCSE Maths and English (essential).
  • Proven experience as a Management Accountant.

Professional Certification

  • Fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA accountant (essential).

Technical Experience

  • Strong grasp of management accounting principles.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment (advantageous).
  • Background in purchase ledger, credit control, and finance operations.
  • Prior exposure to a Private Equity-backed organisation (preferred).
