Location: Newtownabbey Salary: £40,000–£50,000 Employment Type: Hybrid (after initial bedding-in period)
About Montgomery Transport Group (MTG) Established in 1970, Montgomery Transport Group (MTG) is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of logistical services. Part of the Ballyvesey Holdings Group, the company has grown rapidly, providing a diverse range of logistics services across the United Kingdom and Ireland.
We are now seeking a Management Accountant to join our established finance team in Newtownabbey.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
The role involves ensuring financial accuracy, adherence to deadlines, and operational efficiency within two distinct business divisions. Core duties include:
- Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Reviewing the company’s profit & loss account and relevant sections of the balance sheet for accuracy and timely completion.
- Preparing supplementary reports, analysis, and support for budget holders and management.
- Ensuring quality and deadlines are met while resolving any issues in line with company policies and procedures.

Budgeting & Forecasting
- Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly re-forecasts, including monthly meetings with the Group Financial Controller.
- Collecting, collating, and verifying monthly financial data.

Cost Allocation & Financial Performance
- Providing timely management and operational financial information to drive cost and revenue efficiency.
- Allocating company costs accurately against individual revenue streams.
- Identifying trends and deviations to support proactive financial decision-making.

Process & System Improvement
- Implementing efficiencies in finance processes, including profit & loss reporting, month-end closures, and forecasting.
- Enhancing reporting and analysis through process optimisation.

Audit & Compliance
- Playing a key role in annual statutory audits, ensuring full compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Managing workflow against defined goals and objectives while maintaining high service standards and performance benchmarks.

- Strategic Financial IServices
- Recording financial transactions for projects, departments, or the company.
- Preparing internal and external financial statements.
- Reconciling spending with budgets for job costing purposes.
- Analysing financial performance to inform long-term strategies and objectives.
- Recommend cost-saving methodologies and strategic financial recommendations.
Ideal Candidate
Candidates should demonstrate:

Core Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of accounting terms and financial concepts.
- Understanding of finance regulations, taxation, and legislation (e.g., UK & Irish financial compliance).
- Familiarity with business strategy, financial planning, and methodologies.
- Analytical, critical thinking, and organisational skills.
- Attention to detail' with exceptional accuracy.

- An accountancy qualification (e.g., AAT or CIMA).
