Management Accountant
Management Accountant | Technical Accounting & Statutory Reporting | Winchester | Hybrid Working
Role Summary Do you enjoy the technical side of finance as much as management accounting? Join a highly respected organisation in Winchester for a broad and rewarding position combining statutory accounts preparation, audit management, financial compliance, monthly management reporting, budgeting, and financial analysis.
The Role
Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role involves:
Statutory Reporting & Financial Compliance
- Prepare annual statutory accounts across multiple entities
- Lead the year-end audit process and act as primary contact for external auditors
- Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
- Ensure compliance with:
- Companies Act
- Charity Act
- VAT
- Corporation Tax
- Gift Aid requirements
- Maintain robust financial controls and regulatory compliance
- Prepare and review VAT returns and implement legislative changes where necessary
Management Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts
- Perform month-end close activities including:
- Journal entries
- Accruals and prepayments
- Balance sheet reconciliations
- Produce variance analysis with meaningful financial commentary
- Support cash flow reporting and financial modelling
- Prepare reports for senior leadership and stakeholders
- Ensure the integrity of the general ledger

Budgeting & Business Support
- Support the annual budgeting process and rolling forecasts
- Monitor financial performance against budgets
- Provide financial analysis and scenario modelling for business decisions
- Contribute to KPI reporting and performance reviews
Continuous Improvement
- Review financial procedures and controls for best practices
- Support improvements to reporting processes and financial governance
- Participate in finance projects and process enhancements
About You
- Qualification: Preference for ACCA, ACA, or CIMA qualified accountants (or equivalent)
- Technical & Management Experience:
- Statutory accounts preparation
- Audit management
- Extended month-end reporting responsibilities
- Compliance & Tax Knowledge:
- Strong grasp of VAT, Companies Act, and Charity Act requirements
- Technical Skills:
- Advanced Excel skills
- Proficiency in finance systems
- Personality & Competencies:
- Strong communication and stakeholder management
- Attention to detail with a proactive mindset
- Capacity for continuous improvement
