Management Accountant
Barnsley, South Yorkshire
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Management Accountant to join the finance team of a well-established organisation. This is a broad and varied role that will play an integral part in supporting the financial performance of the business through accurate reporting, strong financial controls, and insightful analysis.
Working closely with the Head of Finance and wider leadership team, you'll take ownership of the monthly management accounts process. You'll also have the opportunity to drive improvements across finance processes and systems, whilst partnering with stakeholders across the organisation to provide meaningful financial support and advice.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet, and departmental reporting.
- Maintain and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accruals, prepayments, and all control accounts are accurate and up to date.
- Support the preparation of annual budgets and regular financial forecasts.
- Work closely with budget holders, providing financial guidance and improving understanding of financial performance.
- Assist with cash flow forecasting, treasury activities, and the authorisation of online banking transactions.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards, financial regulations, and internal policies.
- Support the year-end process, including preparation for external audit and statutory accounts.
- Identify opportunities to improve financial systems, reporting, and internal controls.
- Prepare financial modelling and analysis to support business cases, funding opportunities, and investment decisions.
- Build strong working relationships with teams across the organisation, providing financial support where required.
- Provide cover for the Head of Finance where appropriate and assist with wider finance projects.

Skills & Experience Required

- Experience preparing monthly management accounts from start to finish.
- Strong knowledge of accruals, prepayments, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting processes.
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills.
- Previous experience overseeing payroll would be beneficial.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance colleagues.
- A proactive approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
- AAT qualified, part-qualified or fully qualified (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA), or qualified by experience.
