Key Stakeholders: Finance Business Partner – Retail, Property Team
We’re looking for a Management Accountant – Property & Capex to join our Retail Finance team in a high-profile role supporting a business of more than 400 stores across the UK and internationally. This is an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified accountant to build experience in a fast-paced retail environment, with exposure to property costs, capital expenditure and IFRS16 lease accounting.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, you’ll work as part of a wider accounting team to deliver accurate, timely and robust P&L and balance sheet reporting, while maintaining strong ledger integrity in line with current accounting standards. You’ll play a key part in improving and automating processes, support business performance analysis, and take ownership of more complex areas of the accounts while helping to develop junior team members. This role offers strong breadth, visibility and a clear pathway for progression.
Month end
- Prepare and post period end journal entries ensuring accurate recording of all costs in a timely manner – including accruals and prepayments in line with accounting standards.
- Working with Finance Business Partner to understand any additional accruals and prepayments required.
- Regular (at least weekly) review of ledger integrity to prepare for smooth month end close.
- Working closely with AP Team to ensure accurate invoice posting at store cost centre and general ledger account code detail.
- Working with the Property Team to ensure accurate reporting of the Property Costs, both opex and capex.
- Ownership of business as usual IFRS16 postings and adjustments, working with Group Team where necessary to ensure accurate postings. Ability to explain postings and final position to the rest of the Team.
- Complete robust balance sheet reconciliations to agreed deadlines with all reconciling items investigated and resolved promptly.

Finance Business Partner Support
- Support FBP with understanding of ledger postings and, at times, with detailed and concise P&L commentary for individual / specific areas of the P&L commentary.
- Support FBP with ad hoc data requests to carry out P&L analytics, risks & opportunities management and more.
- Support FBP with some areas of routine forecasting and budgeting.
Compliance & Controls
- Significant involvement in the year-end process, preparation of deliverables for the audit and key contact for the auditors during the audit process.
- Support the development of a robust control environment by continuously identifying opportunities to improve financial systems and processes and by implementing these changes.
Systems
- Using Netsuite for journal postings, seeking out opportunities for automation or efficient improvement of the postings.
- Using Workday excel reporting tool to generate accurate data to support FBP with analysis of P&L.
Wider Team
- Support with the ongoing development and coaching of assistant management accountants (typically part- qualified) in both technical expertise and skills and softer skills behaviours.

We Would Like To Meet Someone Who Is
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a genuine interest in improving processes and driving efficiency.
- Newly qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent), or finalist with strong relevant experience
- Solid understanding of core accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience in month-end close processes within a fast-paced high-volume environment
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain high levels of accuracy under tight deadlines
- Good understanding (or desire to develop knowledge) of IFRS16 lease accounting
- Exposure to property, rent, service charge or capital expenditure accounting is advantageous
- Confident handling large data sets with strong Excel skills; experience with ERP systems (e.g. NetSuite, Workday or similar)
- Ability to clearly explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders
- Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement, automation and strengthening controls
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- A collaborative team player, with willingness to support and develop more junior team members
- Positive, can-do attitude with a desire to grow and progress
- A proactive, self-motivated approach with a genuine interest in improving processes and driving efficiency.
