I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Connect to your business - Audit & Assurance
We know it's not just about the numbers. Often, we let the technology take care of those. It's about the creative and collective thinking or our people. That's where the true insight is found. We're redefining the future of audit. Come join us.
Assurance
Businesses need to be resilient and transparent in their reporting to build trust and confidence. Assurance practitioners play a key role in achieving this through independent review and challenge of management's views on a range of regulatory and reporting requirements, whether financial, operational or compliance in nature.
Personal independence
Regulation and controls are standard practice in our industry and Deloitte is no exception. These controls provide important legal protection for both you and the firm. We are subject to a number of audit regulations, one of which requires that certain colleagues abide by specific personal independence constraints (e.g., in relation to any financial interests and employment relationships). This can mean that you and your "Immediate Family Members" are not permitted to hold certain financial interests (shares, funds, bonds etc.) with audit clients of the firm, and also prohibitions on certain employment relationships (e.g., you are not permitted to hold a secondary employment role with SEC audit clients of the firm whilst being employed by the firm). The recruitment team will provide further details as you progress through the recruitment process, or you can contact the Independence team upon request.
