Job Description:
DePuy Synthes, the orthopedics business of Johnson & Johnson, is recruiting for a Manager, EMEA Trade & Transportation Lead, based in Leeds or Cork.

About the Opportunity:
The Manager, EMEA Trade & Transportation Lead is a key member of the global supply chain function, responsible for both the operational transportation network and the trade compliance framework across the Asia Pacific region.

The role ensures the reliable, cost-efficient, and fully compliant movement of products — from manufacturing sites and regional hubs into local distribution centers, hospitals, and distributors — while safeguarding adherence to customs and international trade regulations across all operating countries.

This is a single regional leadership position that brings together two closely related disciplines: how products physically move (transportation networks, carriers, logistics providers) and how they cross borders compliantly (customs, import/export, trade documentation). The role partners closely with regional and global stakeholders to enable uninterrupted product flow, mitigate risk, and drive continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Trade Compliance & Customs

  • Provide regional trade leadership for EMEA, ensuring compliance with applicable customs, import/export, and trade regulations across all operating countries.
  • Serve as the primary EMEA point of contact for global trade operations, supporting global supply chain execution and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee and standardize trade processes, controls, and documentation to ensure consistent execution and audit readiness across the region.
  • Monitor trade performance metrics, identify risks or gaps, and lead corrective and preventive actions.
  • Engage with external partners — customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government authorities — to ensure effective and compliant trade execution.

Transportation Operations:

  • Drive value across EMEA through optimized regional transportation flows for both inbound freight (from manufacturing sites to regional hubs, and from hubs to local affiliates and distributor warehouses) and outbound flows to hospitals and distributors.
  • Manage relationships with third-party and fourth-party logistics providers (including regional Control Tower partners) through performance metrics, strategic direction, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Lead performance measurement of transport reliability through critical metrics aligned with regional Plan, Make, and Deliver operations teams; provide input into executive performance reviews.
  • Deliver on annual cost improvement and productivity targets through operational improvements while protecting service, quality, reliability, and compliance.
  • Translate regional inventory strategy and business requirements into innovative transportation solutions; support transportation set-up for manufacturing network changes and new product launches.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • Experience partnering with global stakeholders and operating within a matrixed, multinational organization.
  • Proven ability to manage complex operational issues, assess risk, and drive compliant outcomes.

  • Understanding of good distribution practice and a quality-first approach.
  • Lean or continuous improvement certification is a plus.
  • Demonstrated awareness of artificial intelligence concepts and responsible / ethical use, with experience generating effective prompts to boost productivity.
