Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager – Specs Operations

Location (Worksite): Abingdon, UK or London, UK Regular and significant time spent at Abingdon, with occasional travel to Chandler, Arizona, and other Specs locations.

Your work will drive compliance, mitigate risks, and foster safety excellence across manufacturing, research, engineering, and operations.

As the EHS leader for Specs Operations, you will oversee strategic EHS programs globally, providing guidance, governance, and execution for Abingdon (UK), Chandler (AZ), and other sites as needs evolve.


Key Responsibilities

EHS Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop, govern, and refine EHS standards, programs, and strategic initiatives across global Specs operations.
  • Establish annual EHS objectives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and key results (OKRs) for Abingdon, Chandler, and other locations.
  • Present EHS performance, risk trends, and compliance summaries to senior leadership and executive stakeholders, ensuring data-driven decision-making.
  • Lead EHS specialists, providing performance evaluations, professional development, and succession planning.
  • Integrate EHS considerations into business, engineering, and operational planning to influence smart, risk-aware company decisions.
  • Cultivate a culture of safety accountability, continuous improvement, and proactive risk reduction.

Governance, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Maintain EHS management systems aligned with:
    • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
    • ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety)
    • HSG65 (UK HSE guidance)
    • Snap’s corporate EHS standards
  • Oversee compliance with UK, US, and global EHS regulations, ensuring permits, documentation, and agency interactions meet standards.
  • Establish governance processes for audits, inspections, corrective actions, and management reviews.
  • Conduct enterprise-level risk assessments for manufacturing, cleaneroms (R&D), and operational environments.
  • Manage regulatory obligations, contractor agreements, and external EHS audit preparation.

Manufacturing, R&D & High-Hazard Program Ownership

  • Champion EHS for critical functions, including manufacturing, engineering, cleaneroms, facilities, and operations.
  • Provide direct oversight of:
    • Hazardous materials, waste management
    • Chemical safety
    • Machine safety
    • Contractor safety
    • Laser safety
    • Industrial hygiene
    • Hazardous gas safety (storage, monitoring, emergency response)
  • Partner with Engineering, Facilities, Manufacturing, Workplace Services, and leadership to embed EHS requirements into facility design, procurement, and operational changes.
  • Lead capital projects from inception to completion, leveraging risk analysis and design reviews to minimize hazards.

Organizational Capability & Culture

  • Develop EHS competency frameworks, training programs, and leadership development initiatives for employees, contractors, and managers.
  • Foster collaboration through safety committees, emergency response teams, and cross-functional forums, driving operational excellence.
  • Share best practices, lessons learned, and standardized methodologies across all locations.

Program Management & Continuous Improvement

  • Assess EHS maturity and establish continuous improvement roadmaps for sites.
  • Oversee EHS budgets, resource plans, and program execution.
  • Utilize data analytics and risk trend reporting to identify opportunities for operational excellence.
  • Develop business cases and strategic recommendations for investments, staffing, or scaling EHS initiatives.

Incident Management & Emergency Preparedness

  • Lead investigations into serious incidents, near misses, and high-potential events across all Specs locations.
  • Ensure root cause analysis and corrective action plans are effectively implemented and sustained.
  • Oversee emergency response planning and business continuity initiatives across Specs, ensuring organizational readiness for disruptions.
  • Serve as EHS emergency lead, collaborating with site leadership, Security, Workplace Services, and Snap executives during crises.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or equivalent field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 10+ years of progressive Environmental Health & Safety experience, with at least:
    • 3+ years in people leadership managing EHS specialists or cross-site programs.
  • Expertise in EHS management systems, regulatory compliance, and risk management—especially in:
    • Manufacturing settings
    • Research and development (R&D)
    • Cleanroom environments
    • Semiconductor, advanced tech, or hardware development
  • Proven experience operating across multiple locations, business units, or regulatory jurisdictions.
  • Strong communication skills to articulate technical and regulatory risks to non-specialist stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced EHS certifications, such as:
    • NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6)
    • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
    • CMIOSH (Chartered Member of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health)
  • Global experience managing EHS programs across diverse jurisdictions.
  • Success in building EHS organizations during periods of rapid expansion, restructuring, or facility growth.
  • Experience overseeing EHS governance programs in global hardware, semiconductor, or tech environments.
