Manager of Construction (MOC) - Data Center Operations (Location Flexible)

The Manager of Construction (MOC) - Data Center Operations (Location Flexible) will be responsible for the Project delivery of a large EPCM portfolio for a Tier-1 Data Center client providing the interface between projects and the business. This is a business-critical role that ensures successful outcomes of Construction Management (CM) and EPCMV projects. The MOC ensures early engagement with the business in the sales process to bring the "construction-driven" project delivery approach to the team, and then leads this approach through to implementation and closeout of the project. The MOC reports to the Advanced Manufacturing General Manager with dotted line responsibility to the Advanced Facilities VP of Construction and the Global Data Center Operations Lead.

Responsibilities

  • Sales support The MOC is responsible for interfacing with sales on new opportunities/top prospects and the integration with operations (engineering, construction and CQV. The MOC supports sales and proposal efforts with the identification of staff available internally and the potential for strategic hires. You will work with the VP of Construction and Operations to ensure best-fit resources are utilized for sales opportunities. This will include preparing and delivering sales presentations on preconstruction and construction services to clients. The MOC, in conjunction with sales, legal, and VP of Construction, will assist with negotiating contracts, commercial terms and rates. You will bring expertise to the team in order to guide the most effective implementation approaches (IPD/Design Assist/Design Build/Design Bid Build) for the work.

  • People, Staffing The MOC has administrative responsibility (Performance reviews, timesheets, etc.) for their team of Site Managers and staff. As agreed with operations/BU, the projects may take on some of these responsibilities (e.g. time sheets) You are responsible for training and coaching, as well as career development for all CM staff. You will work with Data Center Leadership in strategic placement of CM staff for both professional development and ensuring high caliber staff are assigned to key projects.

  • Forecasting The MOC works closely with the other BUs during forecasting to capture prospects where margin will be shared based on corporate policy. The owning BU will need to ensure that we haven’t double-counted the margin forecast. The MOC will coordinate this effort in concert with finance and ensure he/she has an overall understanding of the forecasted opportunities.

  • Project Performance The MOC will work closely with safety, performance, lean delivery, and the operations team to ensure proper set up of the job - including staffing, processes, tools and procedures are in place. At Jacobs, safety is of the utmost importance and as MOC, you will have oversight responsibility for the health and safety of the CM projects. You will work closely with the safety team members to ensure correct reporting, assignment of staff, leadership, etc. preconstruction delivery will also be a priority during design phase.

You will ensure preconstruction measures (offsite construction, constructability, CRRs, etc.) are conducted at appropriate times and that OPRs are conducted monthly. You will report back to the business on actions/critical activities including safety, risk, cost, schedule, quality and client issues. You may be involved in Gate Reviews as necessary to ensure progress of the work. You will work with digital delivery to ensure appropriate technology and platforms are utilized on construction projects. You may serve as the Designated Project Executive (DPE) for construction projects, and will interface with clients looking to discuss and improve project delivery.

Here's what you'll need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • At least 10 years’ of progressive experience in managing construction projects related to data centers, industrial and/or commercial facilities
  • Strong working knowledge of pre-design and pre-construction, building systems/components and technology, contract management, project delivery methods, team building and client relationship building
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, their schedules and their target values, and ability to address and mitigate project risk and issues.
  • Ability to manage a team of site managers and construction management teams on multiple projects
  • Ability to lead teams on very-large scale green-field projects
  • Ability to manage trade partners at principal levels
  • Committed to safety with ability to work with the safety director on all HSE procedures and planning
  • Committed to quality with ability to plan and manage each project’s quality team by following the field QA/QC plan
  • Lean construction delivery experience and ability to adapt to lean methods

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • OSHA 30 training
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Professional Engineer (PE), or Project Management Professional (PMP
  • Working knowledge of the sales process - including developing a value proposition, written proposal development and client presentations
  • Experience with Polaris including revenue recognition, project reviews and project planning
  • Familiar with construction software and ability to learn and use new construction software (such as Autodesk Construction Cloud)
  • Proficient in software use such as Microsoft suite and Bluebeam
  • Understanding and ability to travel to project sites

The base salary range for this position is $134,000.00 to $185,000.00. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
