Overview

At Shearline, we deliver world-class precision engineering solutions to some of the most demanding industries, including medical, defence, aerospace, motorsport, nuclear, and other high-tech sectors. This role sits within our ShearXL division, a growing business unit with an annual turnover of £1 million. You'll play a key leadership role, managing a team of 15 people while helping to drive operational performance, support future growth, and maintain the high standards our customers expect.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Shape Growth Strategy

  • Lead the development and implementation of ShearXL’s business growth strategy in line with the objectives of The Shearline Group.
  • Identify and action new markets and customers to ShearXL and The Shearline Group for growth.

Commercial Development

  • Maintain a strong understanding of business performance and market conditions.
  • Prepare accurate quotations using agreed costing models.
  • Ensure pricing reflects labour, materials, overhead and required profit margins.
  • Regularly review costing methods to maintain competitiveness whilst protecting profitability.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve efficiencies and increase profit.

Sales and Key Account Management

  • Cultivate strong, lasting relationships with new and existing customers.
  • Generate new business opportunities through customer visits, market research and networking.
  • Understand customer requirements.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for any customer related queries.

Operations and General Management

  • Drive the continuous improvement culture.
  • Work with Team Leader to oversee the day-to-day operations of ShearXL.
  • Ensure production schedules meet customer delivery requirements.
  • Conduct yearly performance reviews.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure all company standards are promoted and maintained.
  • Always ensure safe working practices.
  • Ensure commitment and application of the company Quality, Environmental and HS Policies.
  • Help identify any areas for improvement and implement.
  • Carry out any other duties which may from time to time be reasonably requested to assist in the day to day running of the company.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CNC machining, combined with several years of experience in operations management within a manufacturing environment. You are ready to step into a General Manager role, taking overall responsibility for business performance, profitability, and sustainable growth. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong commercial awareness, proven leadership skills, and the ability to drive operational excellence while identifying and delivering new business opportunities.
