Technical Services Manager – Warner Bros. Studio Tour London (Harry Potter)

Our Warner Bros. studios are among the world’s leading motion picture and television production and post-production facilities, shaping experiences that inform, engage, and transport audiences. A huge part of that success lies with the Studio Operations group, covering areas like:

The Role: Technical Services Manager (Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making Of Harry Potter)

Our Technical Services department at WBSTL maintains all show-related technical aspects—including (but not limited to):

  • Lighting, sound, and video systems
  • Set and prop maintenance
  • Show control and associated hardware/software

By collaborating closely with the original Harry Potter filmmakers, suppliers, and third-party contractors, Technical Services ensures the Studio Tour operates at the highest standards, adhering to industry best practices while delivering a consistent, safe, and world-class visitor experience.

Key Responsibilities

As Technical Services Manager, you will:

  • Lead a high-performing technical team, ensuring compliance, high service standards, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain, monitor, and improve all AVL (Audiovisual & Lighting) systems—lighting, sound, video, props, and hardware/software—alignment with health & safety regulations.
  • Oversee technical teams in delivering Features & Show Experience projects, working with key suppliers, internal stakeholders, and production partners.
  • Future-proof operations, adapting to evolving customer needs and industry trends to maintain optimal presentation standards.
  • Ensure resource planning for staffing, rotas, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to align technical installations and operational delivery.
  • Act as Duty Manager/Duty Technician (“Tech Zero”), managing day-to-day operations and technical issues on the Tour.
  • Manage budgets, track uptime/downtime (SLA compliance), and optimise financial performance.
  • Champion innovation, troubleshooting, and team-wide improvements in processes and visitor engagement.

Requirements & Qualifications

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Proven management experience leading a Technical Services team within the tourism, leisure, or visitor attractions industry, ideally in a fast-paced environment (e.g., live events, Disney/Walt Disney World).
  • Profound technical expertise in AV installations/exhibits, including:
    • Electronics and interactives
    • Animatronics & special effects
    • Networked show control systems and associated hardware
  • Project & supplier management experience with strong stakeholder relations, cost control, and contract negotiation.
  • Operations & facilities management knowledge, including:
    • Work order systems
    • Maintenance planning (e.g., PVM/PFM schedules)
    • Risk assessment, H&S compliance
  • Excellent problem-solving, prioritisation, and decision-making abilities under pressure.
  • IT proficiency for operational systems and logistics.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities and collaborate across teams.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications

  • Certifications in:
    • IPAF (Mobile Access Work Platforms)
    • PASMA (Tower Scaffolding)
    • IOSH/NEBOSH (Health & Safety Leadership)
    • PTS10 (Security/Emergency Training)

Working Pattern

This is a full-time (40-hour/week) role with shift-based flexibility: -Expect weekend, evening, and holiday shifts, including school breaks and bank holidays (seven-day rotating rota).

  • High degrees of flexibility may be required to support the major events and operational needs of the business.

Duty Responsibilities: As an ambassador for the team, you’ll sometimes fill in as Head of Show Experience, representing the business in third-party meetings and supplier interactions when needed.
