I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Your Profile
We are looking for those with skills and experience in one or more of the following areas (strong candidates often master three key pillars):
- Strong consulting & advisory toolkit (e.g., diagnostic design, stakeholder engagement at executive level, framing discussions for senior decision-makers)
- Deep expertise in scaled Agile & enterprise agility (e.g., transformational design and delivery leadership)
- A developing perspective on how AI reshapes transformational agility (e.g., how advancements in AI alter coordination, decision-making, and operational effectiveness)
Though this is a rare trifecta, the ideal candidate excels in at least two pillars, showing notable curiosity and intent toward the third.
Where the Role Makes an Impact
- Diagnostic Clarity – Structure conclusions from ambiguous insights, winning confidence from senior stakeholders
- Senior Stakeholder Prioritisation – Engage with CIOs, COOs and Transformation Leaders (directing 'sceptic' conversations into productive directions)
- Proposition Nutrition – Lead proposal development, transformation roadmap design, and discipline-integrated client pitches
- Agile Blueprinting – Develop enterprise-scale transformation blueprints (linking Agile backlog strategies to core business-shaping technology outcomes)
- AI-Native Innovation – Frame AI as an enquiry into operational models and governance—not a simple tool adoption. There’s a strong interest in how AI might alter "coordination cost" in sat models, decision latency, and network architectures
- Reformed Governance Design – Shape approaches where AI capabilities form the backbone of a flatter, more adaptive organisation (e.g., redefining War Rooms, decision-workflows or newer autonomous team customisation)
- Human-AI Work Design – Assess the organizational edge of leaders vs. markers—and where AI and additional dynamics properly thwart human oversight or forward even through Agile’s rhythm
- Regulated Setting Wholesale – Challenge legacy adopting capitalisation regimes, audit timeframes and operating-rate gaps by leveraging Agility as the key to compliance too
- Consult-strength Augmentation – Use AI to refine consulting practices (e.g., improve syntheses of client insights, agile state maximizations, report-market insights)
- Resilience Through Value-Streams – Take-origin teams, DevSequencing practices, and portfolio overseer from volatile, legacy leadership-planning. Use Lean Portfolio Management, transparency-based budgeting and informed decision-making right down to unit-level teams
- Agile Rollout Impact – Implement and propagate practices like PI Workshops, Scaled Scrum and Kanban principles while handling cultural and policy reorganisations integral to scaling
- Methodological Mastery – Challenge how Agile frameworks meet cultural, growth, knowledge and governance trade-offs in global orgs
- Coaching & Mentoring Lean-Agile Coach – Curate agile transitions with a customer-first mindset, pilot peerised coherence, trauma-informed alignment and team sprint self-direction
