Managing Consultant – Strategy & Risk Advisory Eurasian Practice

Location: Hybrid (Eurasia-focused, with travel requirements)

Job Description

Joining as a Managing Consultant in our Strategy & Risk Advisory team, you’ll drive growth within Eurasia. This is a unique opportunity for an entrepreneurial, self-driven professional with a well-rounded skill set—perfect for expanding our presence in this region.

The ideal candidate must demonstrate:

  • Deep understanding of Eurasian political economies and sectoral expertise.
  • Strategic flexibility to thrive in diverse, complex markets.
  • Expertise in analysing how political, economic, and regulatory risks impact client strategies, investments, and operations.

Core responsibilities include intelligence gathering, network expansion, and complex project delivery. You’ll build and maintain senior-level contacts across public and private sectors—a role that often requires region-wide travel.

You’ll apply sector-specific insights to risk analyses and client deliverables in demanding environments.


Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership

  • Lead and deliver business intelligence and risk advisory projects across Eurasia, with a focus on:

    • Due diligence investigations
    • Government relations support
  • Develop and maintain region-specific, country-level, and sector expertise in Eurasian markets.

Client & Business Growth

  • Contribute to J.S. Held’s organic expansion in the region through new client acquisition strategies.
  • Build and manage trusted client relationships, executing account plans with precision.
  • Proactively explore business development opportunities and collaborate with senior colleagues to forge new client relationships.

Reputation & Engagement

  • Support marketing initiatives, including research and high-calibre thought leadership content.
  • Cultivate strong public-sector relationships across the region, representing J.S. Held at industry events.
  • Provide expert media commentary on geopolitical, regulatory, and sector-specific risks.

Qualifications

Required

✔ Academic background:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant disciplines (e.g., international relations, political science, economics, history, languages, or area studies) from a top-tier university.

✔ Professional experience (4–7 years):

  • Managing or conducting complex, region-specific business intelligence and risk advisory projects, particularly in:
    • Integrity due diligence
    • Political risk analysis
    • Stakeholder mapping

✔ Regional expertise:

  • Exceptional grasp of political, economic, and commercial landscapes in Eurasia, obtained through:
    • Professional experience
    • Long-term residence or on-the-ground work

✔ Networking & relationships:

  • Established network of key contacts (government agencies, journalists, business leaders) across Eurasia.
  • Willingness to expand these networks.

✔ Communication:

  • Outstanding oral and written English skills, including ability to write clear, high-quality reports under tight deadlines.
  • Advantageous: regional languages (e.g., Russian, Turkish, Central Asian languages, Eastern European languages).

✔ Soft skills:

  • Self-motivated with initiative, adaptability, and a proactive mindset.
  • Diplomatic and discreet, able to operate in highly sensitive environments with sound judgement.

✔ Business development experience (or genuine commitment to contribute in this area).


Preferred

🔹 Master’s degree in relevant disciplines.
