Founded in 1976, PLASA is headquartered in Eastbourne and serves a membership of approximately 370 companies across the UK and globally.
Core Purpose
As a not-for-profit organisation, PLASA reinvests all surpluses to support member services and industry initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Representing members and advocating for best practice, safe working standards, and member interests at government, regulatory, and stakeholder levels.
- Promoting collective industry influence through initiatives like the #WeMakeEvents campaign (launched during COVID-19 challenge).

Commercial Activities
PLASA’s revenue extends from membership fees to impactful commercial ventures:
- PLASA Show – the UK’s leading international trade event for live entertainment technology, held annually at Olympia London, featuring 270+ exhibitors and visitors from over 25 countries.
- PLASA Focus – regional trade events (e.g., PLASA Focus Leeds) connecting members nationwide.
- LSi (Light & Sound International) – a market-leading print and digital trade publication read in 120+ countries.
- Training & Qualifications – industry-recognised certification programmes.
The organisation comprises:
- ~20 staff members
- A Membership Governing Body & specialist working groups for member collaboration.
Purpose and Scope
Reporting directly to the Board via the Chair, the Managing Director (MD) will:
- Lead PLASA’s strategic direction, ensuring strong governance, financial sustainability, and operational excellence.
- Balance member value with commercial viability, making PLASA influential, relevant, and responsive.
- Represent the interests of 370 member companies and the wider live entertainment technology sector.
Key Accountabilities
1. Strategic Implementation & Relevance
- Deliver PLASA’s strategy and business plan to maintain relevance in an evolving industry environment.
2. Financial Stewardship
- Ensure long-term financial sustainability and diversify revenue streams.
3. Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and empower a high-performing team of ~20 staff.

4. Member Engagement
- Grow and strengthen the 370-strong membership base, ensuring representative diversity.
5. External Influence & Impact
- Enhance PLASA’s national and international profile.
- Address policy, regulatory, and market developments promptly.
6. Commercial Asset Oversight
- Strategic direction over PLASA Show, regional events, LSi publications, skills, and training programmes.
What PLASA Offers
- Competitive remuneration: £75,000 – £120,000 (aligning with the role’s seniority).
- Hybrid work model: Minimum 3 days/week in-office (at Eastbourne HQ).
