Managing Director

North East England

Manufacturing - Highly Regulated Sector

Up to £240,000, plus generous bonus, benefits and equity incentives

The Company

Our client, an integral part of a highly successful parent organisation, is recognised globally for its expertise in designing, developing, manufacturing, and supporting performance-critical engineered solutions for highly regulated industries. This role is a significant appointment, carrying responsibilities for full P & L management across an established, profitable UK operation with multiple facilities.

This position carries significant visibility and requires cross-functional leadership, strategic value-driven planning and strong execution capabilities, with full accountability for driving results. The position involves substantial autonomy and carries responsibility for executing strategies aimed at driving growth, improving financial performance and maximising shareholder value.

The Role

  • Drive profitable business growth by prioritising innovative commercial solutions, new product development, SMART goals and understanding customer needs.
  • Set a strong example in building a unified workplace and a “can do” environment through recruitment, coaching, development of talent and succession planning.
  • Implement productivity improvements across the business and streamline manufacturing, operations and supply chain to reduce lead times and lean out costs.
  • Review current practices, monitor key performance indicators, maintain product quality standards, optimise efficiency, support continuous improvement initiatives, facilitate communication, set and achieve demanding productivity targets.
  • Monitor market trends, technology and product innovation to pursue growth objectives and personally develop long-term relationships with high profile customers.
  • Encourage a customer-orientated approach throughout the business and apply world-class strategies to enhance customer service for quality and delivery performance.
  • Report to the parent company on performance for P & L, business metrics, and financials.
  • Reach out across all international sites, promote initiatives and change management, strengthen communication and shape organisational culture.
  • Provide visible leadership and motivation to the management team and workforce as a whole by fostering excellence, promoting engagement, and delivering strong with clear lines of authority.
  • Uphold a positive, respectful workplace that has a consistent focus on health & safety.

  • Demonstrate expertise, skills, and personal qualities as an established Senior Executive (such as CEO, President, Managing Director, or General Manager), including substantial experience overseeing full profit and loss management within a dynamic, agile, and specialised manufacturing setting.
  • Possess strong technical acumen and a comprehensive knowledge of engineering, manufacturing, and operational processes, acquired within highly regulated sectors – preferably those with an international presence, such as Aerospace & Defence, Automotive, Medical Devices, Pharmaceuticals & Life Sciences and Oil & Gas etc.
  • A degree or higher qualification in a business or technical field is required. Motivation, drive, resilience, and goal achievement are considered important.
  • Leadership skills such as communication, problem-solving, decision-making, adaptability, motivation and delegation are required for fostering collaboration, building trust, guiding teams through challenges, and achieving strategic objectives.
  • Capable of developing strategies to achieve established vision, direction and commercial results.
  • Demonstrates experience in achieving both top and bottom-line objectives through organic growth and acquisitions.
  • Familiarity with the full life cycle approach for components, including aspects such as Intellectual Property, long-term performance, aftermarket services, and related capabilities, is required.
  • Demonstrates the capacity to integrate strategic thinking with effective execution; possesses strong negotiation and influencing skills, with a willingness to get ‘hands-on,’ directly engaging in business operations while maintaining a clear understanding of relevant data, metrics and processes essential for achieving results.
  • Proactively demonstrate your potential and actively engage in personal development to prepare for future roles that may arise within the parent organisation.
  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence, adaptability in various environments, respect for cultural differences, and an action-orientated approach that encourages sound decision making and a decisive approach to meeting deadlines.
  • Show entrepreneurial ability and authority to challenge current practices, promote continuous improvement and uphold a customer focused “right first time” approach.
  • A high degree of financial literacy, exceptional analytical abilities and robust commercial acumen, combined with the capacity to pose insightful and challenging questions.
  • Must have a valid driving licence and a willingness to travel internationally.
