Managing Director

Managing Director – Manufacturing Business

Our client, part of a successful global manufacturing organisation, is seeking an experienced Managing Director (MD) to drive value, revenue, and margin growth, while reinforcing their leadership position in the UK and embracing inter-group product opportunities.


About the Role

This position offers an attractive compensation and benefits package and spans a diverse, strategic remit:

As the Managing Director, the successful candidate will:

  • Develop and implement strategic direction, aligning business activities with domestic, international, and group-level targets.
  • Lead sales, production, service, and operational excellence to maximise financial performance and advances KPIs such as sales, margin (EBIT & ROS), order intake, market expansion, and production efficiency.
  • Oversee budgeting, cost control, and corporate processes to enhance efficiency and profitability.
  • Collaborate closely with group companies while fostering strong management relationships at regional and strategic levels.

The role demands executive-level influence, with responsibility for driving growth, strategy execution, and operational execution across all business functions.


Key Responsibilities

The managing director must ensure success in the following areas:

  • Market Leadership & Expansion

    • Strengthen and expand business within UK and international markets.
    • Develop product and market strategies to drive sustainable revenue growth.
  • Operational Excellence

    • Implement business policies and KPI frameworks (e.g., margin enhancement, production efficiency, order intake targets).

    • Optimise operational workflows, identifying areas of improvement and implementing efficiency measures.

  • Leadership &-team Development

    • Develop and manage a high-performing team, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and excellence.

  • Reporting & Stakeholder Relations

    • Prepare comprehensive management reports for decision-making.

Requirements

Essential Experience

  • Academic background: Minimum graduate level (equivalent to undergraduate degree or higher).
  • Industry Expertise: Prior experience in engineering, manufacturing, or commercial-technical sectors is highly advantageous.
  • Senior Leadership: Proven senior management or Managing Director experience within an operations-centric, preferably multi-national or complex organisation.
  • Project & Commercial Acumen: Strong project & business growth background, with a track record of delivering financial and operational success.
  • Results-Driven Leadership: Demonstrated profitability growth, margin improvement, and strategic partnerships experience.
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Firm commitment to customer focus, alongside outstanding organisation and stakeholder engagement.

Technical & Soft Skills

  • Project & Negotiation: Proficient in advanced negotiation and project management.
