Company Description

Definition Gyms is an independent premium gym brand based in Tonbridge, Kent. Serious training environment, dark industrial spaces, and a member community that turns up. Our standard is simple: by any means necessary.

Site One is established and trading well. Site Two is in motion. We will be five sites by 2031 — and we are hiring the person who runs all of it.

Role Description

Most director jobs in this industry hand you someone else's playbook and a reporting line to match. This one hands you the keys to the whole business.

This is a full-time role based in Tonbridge, Kent, with travel across sites as we grow. You take full operational control. Every site, every team member and every function reports to you. The owner is stepping out of day-to-day operations for good and will keep exactly two things: finding and funding new sites, and guarding the brand. Everything else becomes yours.

Your relationship with the owner is board-level: monthly numbers, quarterly strategy. No daily involvement, no second-guessing, no running ideas up a flagpole.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

What you'll own:

  • The full P&L across all sites, with hard profit targets per site
  • The Site Two launch end to end, then the playbook that opens Three, Four and Five
  • Hiring and developing general managers — the leadership bench beneath you
  • Membership growth, retention and secondary revenue
  • Operational standards, compliance, and health and safety across the estate
  • The systems and reporting the owner can read from anywhere in the world

Twelve months in, success looks like this: Site Two open and trading, Site One running to standard without a minute of the owner's time, a general manager bench strong enough to staff the next opening, and a business that improved while the owner was out of the country.

The honest bit: this role is not for someone who wants direction. There is no head office, no framework to inherit and nowhere to hide. If you need a weekly steer, this will not work for you. If you have spent years running someone else's growth and want the authority, the accountability and real ownership on the table, this is the job that almost never gets advertised in this industry. It just did.
