Managing Director
Principal Managing Director – Food Manufacturing (High-Growth Scale-Up) Ethical founder-led business | Truro, Cornwall
About the Role
This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of a highly successful, values-led food manufacturing business entering its next phase of growth.
Our client is a founder-led disruptor in a traditional category, built on innovation, quality, and a commitment to doing things differently.
- Headquartered in Cornwall, the business partners with major retailers, foodservice operators, and manufacturing customers across the UK.
- Fuelling ambitious growth plans, they require a Managing Director to:
- Drive strategic execution while preserving their culture and values.
- Strengthen operational excellence and commercial performance.
The Challenge
The role demands a commercially minded and operationally astute leader who can:
- Combine strategic vision with disciplined execution.
- Scale the business while nurturing its entrepreneurial roots.
- Align growth with profitability, service standards, and quality.
The Managing Director will partner closely with the CEO and Board to translate long-term ambitions into impactful realities—shaping legacy in a dynamic organisation.

What Success Looks Like
The role requires:

Strategic Leadership:
- Deliver clear, executable plans aligned to measurable, sustainable growth.
- Influence culture that balances accountability and empowerment.
- Partner with leadership to refine data-driven, values-aligned strategy.

Operational Maturity:
- Strengthen systems, processes, and infrastructure for seamless scale.
- Optimise financial metrics, operational KPIs, and commercial insights.

Growth Revenue:
- Develop new channels, customers, and markets profitably.
- Identify efficiency improvements, transformation, and continuous innovation.

Risk & Resilience:
- Ensure robust governance and compliance across safety, ESG, and regulatory frameworks.
- Mitigate risks in operational, commercial, and strategic domains.

Leadership & Governance:
- Foster employee engagement, wellbeing, and development.
- Build trusted stakeholder relationships internally and externally.
Required Profile
A proven operational leader with:
- Track Record:
- 10+ years in Managing Director, General Manager, or Senior Executive roles.
- Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, or complex consumer goods.

- Strong P&L/fundamentals fluency (cashflow, investment appraisal, profit optimisation).

- Governance, food safety, quality assurance, sustainability regimes.
- Major capital investment/automation/transformation projects.
Desirable Skills
- Experience in mergers, acquisitions, or strategic partnerships.

- Managing cross-functional integration (post-deal or periodic).
