12-month opportunity for an experienced Financial Services Legal Counsel
Provide commercially focused legal advice across wealth management, retail investments, and financial services regulation, supporting strategic business initiatives within a leading UK financial institution.
An exciting opportunity has arisen
For an experienced legal professional to join a leading UK financial services organisation as a Managing Legal Counsel on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This senior role will support a well-established Wealth Management and Private Banking business during a period of strategic growth and transformation.
Working as part of a collaborative legal team
You will provide commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of wealth management, retail investment, and financial services matters, partnering with senior stakeholders to deliver pragmatic legal solutions in a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial legal advice across wealth management, retail investment, and financial services products and services.
- Advise on complex legal and regulatory matters, ensuring compliance with applicable UK financial services regulation.
- Support strategic business initiatives, change programmes, and integration projects.
- Partner closely with senior leaders, Risk, Compliance, and Governance functions to manage legal and regulatory risk.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial and financial services documentation.
- Identify legal, regulatory, and reputational risks and provide practical solutions to support business objectives.
- Drive continuous improvement of legal processes and contribute to operational efficiencies within the legal function.
- Build strong relationships across the business, acting as a trusted legal adviser to senior stakeholders.

About You
We are seeking an experienced financial services lawyer with strong commercial judgement and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

You will ideally have:
- Qualified solicitor with significant post-qualification experience.
- Strong in-house or private practice experience advising financial services clients.
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Wealth Management
- Asset Management
- Funds
- Retail Investments
- Financial Services Regulation
- Excellent knowledge of the UK regulatory landscape, including areas such as FCA regulation, MiFID II, Consumer Duty, AIFMD, UCITS, PRIIPs, and related financial services legislation.
- Experience partnering with senior business stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Strong commercial drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
- The ability to balance legal risk with commercial objectives and provide pragmatic, business-focused advice.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
