Managing Quantity Surveyor

We're looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our Southern Water Strategic Delivery Programme team based in Falmer / Chatham.

Location

Southern Water Offices, Falmer / Chatham

Hours

40 hours per week - 3 days a week will be required in the office or on site as determined by the project needs.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join Kier as we embark on a strategic partnership with Southern Water, delivering their ambitions for AMP 8 Water cycle. As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll play a pivotal role in mobilising projects across Southern Water's areas, providing commercial support and ensuring the successful delivery of this transformative programme. You'll work collaboratively with talented teams, managing commercial performance whilst fostering strong client relationships and driving innovation across the business.

Responsibilities

As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, you'll be working within the Commercial Team, supporting them in managing the commercial, procurement and financial aspects of Southern Water Strategic Delivery Programme. Your day to day will include:

  • Ensuring robust cost and value reporting, managing forecasting and producing accurate commercial reports for senior leadership
  • Leading and developing a team of commercial staff, identifying talent and ensuring their growth through mentoring and support
  • Managing contract commercial deliverables, assessing risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies to achieve targeted outcomes
  • Overseeing subcontract procurement and negotiations, ensuring appropriate contract terms and fostering excellent supply chain relationships
  • Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team to advise on commercial strategy and maximise opportunities for profitability

Requirements

This role of Managing Quantity Surveyor is great for you if:

  • You have a relevant Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying and demonstrate senior commercial experience within a Tier 1 contracting environment
  • You possess a strong understanding of NEC forms of contract and current Construction Law, ideally with experience in the Water sector or regulated utilities
  • You have a proven track record in commercial management, procurement and can produce accurate regional reports outlining risks and opportunities
  • You're an excellent team player with strong leadership skills, able to encourage, support and mentor members of the commercial team
  • You can manage your time effectively, work to tight deadlines and demonstrate an open, honest and collaborative approach
