Balfour Beatty is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join the team in Peterhead, supporting the delivery of the ASTI Project—a vital initiative that will bolster Scotland’s energy network and accelerate the country’s transition to a cleaner, more sustainable future.
This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced commercial leader who thrives on ownership, team leadership, and contributes to nationally significant infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will provide commercial leadership across the project, ensuring contractual control, precise cost management, robust reporting, and strong governance.
Responsibilities Include:
- Leading and supporting Quantity Surveying staff across the entire project
- Developing and implementing the commercial strategy to safeguard margins and mitigate risks
- Overseeing cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow, valuations, and final accounts
- Managing subcontract procurement, subcontract accounts, and commercial performance
- Identifying, valuing, and negotiating variations with the client
- Supporting project reviews, reporting, and commercial decision-making
- Ensuring compliance with Balfour Beatty’s commercial processes, BMS (Balfour Beatty Management System), and Group Minimum Commercial Expectations
- Maintaining a commitment to Zero Harm, sustainability, and adherence to Balfour Beatty’s core values
The role prioritises commercial and contractual oversight, team leadership of Quantity Surveyors, and guidance for project teams on all commercial matters.

Key Qualities & Requirements:
- Substantial experience in Quantity Surveying within construction or infrastructure
- Proven track record in managing commercial performance on complex projects
- Strong grasp of margin analysis, risk mitigation, cash flow, forecasting, and contract administration
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and influence commercial teams
- Hold or be eligible for a valid CSCS card
- Preferred: Professional membership or qualification in RICS, CIOB, ICE, or similar
