Balfour Beatty is seeking a Managing Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial operations on the ASTI Project — a pivotal programme strengthening Scotland’s energy network and accelerating the transition toward a cleaner future.
This role offers an exceptional chance for an experienced commercial leader to take ownership of project performance, mentor colleagues, and contribute to a nationally significant infrastructure scheme.
What You'll Be Doing
Key Responsibilities
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you’ll drive commercial governance and ensure contractual integrity across the project:
- Lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors, guiding them in commercial strategy and execution.
- Define and deliver the commercial strategy to safeguard margins, identify risks, and mitigate financial exposure.
- Oversee cost reporting, forecasting, cash flow management, valuations, and final project accounts.
- Manage subcontract procurement, accounting, and commercial performance to enhance contract efficiency.
- Value and agree variations with stakeholders while maintaining contractual alignment.
- Support project reviews, reporting, and commercial decision-making with data-driven insights.
- Ensure compliance with Balfour Beatty’s commercial standards, BMS processes, and Group Minimum Commercial Expectations.
- Uphold Balfour Beatty’s values of Zero Harm, sustainability, and collaborative excellence.

Who We're Looking For
An astute and influential Managing Quantity Surveyor who thrives in leadership, can build cohesive teams, and drive commercial discipline beneath complex infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Bring
- Substantial Quantity Surveying experience in construction or infrastructure.
- Proven management of commercial performance on large, complex projects.
- Deep knowledge of margin protection, risk mitigation, cash flow forecasting, and contract administration.
- Experience leading and mentoring commercial teams, fostering collaboration.
- A valid CSCS card.
- Desirable: A professional certification from RICS, CIOB, ICE, or equivalent.
