We’re now looking for a Commercial Manager to join our team in Cumbria, supporting a major programme within the PPP partnership.
Why this role matters
As a MQS, you’ll lead day‑to‑day commercial activity on a project within the PPP portfolio. You’ll provide confident, clear commercial guidance while helping shape strategy, strengthen governance, and drive performance.
You’ll work closely with your Project Commercial Lead and multidisciplinary teams to ensure commercial excellence across cost, risk, margin, and supply chain engagement.
What You’ll Be Doing
Commercial leadership
Lead the commercial function on a daily basis, ensuring full compliance with contract terms, governance, and project procedures. Provide clear commercial insight and recommendations to support strategic decision‑making. Continuously improve commercial processes to keep them robust and efficient.

Team leadership
Manage and develop the project commercial team. Set expectations, review performance, and support career development. Promote continuous improvement and learning from experience.
Commercial controls & reporting
Own all internal commercial reporting: CVRs, forecasts, margin reporting and KPIs. Ensure all data is accurate, validated and delivered on time. Lead preparation of monthly applications for payment and client reporting.
Contract management & procurement
Act as first point of escalation for contractual issues. Develop subcontract terms aligned to project strategy. Work closely with procurement teams to secure timely, commercially strong packages.
Risk, opportunity & performance
Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities. Partner with technical leads on supply chain performance and compliance. Drive delivery of commercial targets across cost, cashflow, margin and risk.
Essential
What we’re looking for
Significant experience leading commercial teams on large, complex projects (£100m+). Strong understanding of major contract forms (NEC3/4, JCT or equivalent). Proven experience developing commercial strategies and procurement approaches. Confident communicator able to present to senior leadership. Broad commercial skill set including forecasting, cost control, governance and assurance. Ability to obtain (or currently hold) suitable security clearance.

Preferred
Experience in nuclear, defence, rail, utilities or other regulated sectors. Chartered status (RICS, CIOB or equivalent) or working towards it.
