Manual Machinist
Are you an experienced Manual Machinist or Toolroom Machinist who enjoys working on precision components and one-off or small batch work?
Do you take pride in producing high-quality parts using traditional machining methods?
We’re supporting a well-established precision engineering and manufacturing business in Portsmouth who are looking to recruit a Service Centre Operator / Manual Machinist to join their skilled team.
What’s the role all about?
This is a hands-on machining role where you’ll be working within a toolroom or service centre environment, producing and modifying components to support production and engineering requirements.
You’ll be responsible for working on manual machines, carrying out repairs, modifications and one-off work to tight tolerances.
Key responsibilities
- Operate manual machinery including lathes, mills and other toolroom equipment
- Manufacture, modify and repair components to required specifications
- Work from engineering drawings and technical instructions
- Produce one-off and small batch components
- Carry out tooling adjustments and maintenance tasks
- Inspect finished parts using precision measuring equipment
- Support production teams with tooling and engineering requirements
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised working environment
- Ensure all work meets quality and engineering standards

What you’ll need
To Succeed In This Role, You’ll Bring
- Experience as a Manual Machinist, Toolroom Machinist or Service Engineer
- Strong knowledge of manual machining techniques (turning, milling, drilling)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Experience working to tight tolerances
- Familiarity with inspection and measurement tools
- A practical, hands-on approach
