Job Description Who will you be working with? A Division of Wabtec UK Ltd, Northampton-based firm Bearward Engineering manufactures radiators for the power generation industry and is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer – Health & Safety Project Support. Role: Manufacturing Engineer Salary: £Competitive Location: Northampton, (NN4 8HJ) Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time How will you make a difference? The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for developing, controlling, and improving manufacturing processes to ensure safety, quality, efficiency, and cost effectiveness. The role involves support of automation and robotic technologies within the plant; ownership of process documentation, introduction of new processes, deployment of lean tools. What will your typical day look like? Maintain and control process documentation, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with operational needs (e.g. PFMEA, Control Plans, Work Instructions). Drive process improvements using structured problem-solving methods and lean techniques to enhance safety, quality, and efficiency. Support and optimise production by analysing performance, improving KPIs, and resolving manufacturing issues. Lead and develop automated and robotic processes, including welding systems and PLC-controlled equipment. Introduce new processes and equipment, ensuring successful trials, validation, and operator readiness. Support production operations by defining process times, tooling requirements, and ensuring equipment reliability and uptime. What do we want to know about you? Degree in Manufacturing or Engineering preferred. Alternatively, Level 3 qualifications (e.g. ONC, NVQ, City & Guilds, BTEC) considered. Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and production workflows. Experience with lean methodologies, kaizen, and structured problem-solving tools. Knowledge of robotic/automated manufacturing systems, with exposure to welding or industrial robotics. Experience using CAD (e.g. AutoCAD, Creo) and working with PLC-controlled equipment (desirable) If you don’t have all the above criteria don’t worry, we would still like to hear from you as we live our values always put people first, and strive to expand what is possible.
