Manufacturing Engineer
Manufacturing Engineer – Northampton
About the Role
A Division of Wabtec UK Ltd, Northampton-based Bearward Engineering manufactures radiators for the power generation industry and is currently recruiting for a Manufacturing Engineer.
Role Summary
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will work with Operations to develop, verify, and validate new and existing processes. This ensures we provide outstanding heat transfer and engine cooling solutions to our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Process documentation and compliance – Maintain control of process flow documentation, PFMEAs (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis), control plans, and process instructions.
- Process review – Audit current processes to ensure they are safe, cost-effective, and meet product specifications.
- New process implementation – Introduce new processes in line with the company’s change management system, ensuring full documentation, equipment availability, and staff training on jigs and fixtures.
- Process improvement – Collaborate with Team Leaders to monitor and analyse Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), supporting continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, A3 problem-solving).
- Root cause analysis – Use data-driven tools to resolve manufacturing problems effectively.
- Lean manufacturing – Embed lean principles and Kaizen methodologies into manufacturing processes.
- Production planning – Determine production times, resource requirements, and costs.
- Tooling and fixture design – Recommend and assist in the design of required jigs and fixtures.
- Equipment maintenance – Work with Maintenance Department to ensure production equipment is properly maintained.

Requirements

Qualifications – A relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred or equivalent qualifications such as:
- A-Levels
- ONC, City & Guilds Level 3
- BTEC National Diploma Level 3
- IVQ Technician Diploma
- NVQ Level 3

Experience in key methodologies –
- PFMEA, Kaizen/A3, and Poka-Yoke (error-proofing)
- Process cost analysis (including waste, downtime, scrap, and rework)
- Lean manufacturing tools and strong problem-solving skills
- Business metrics knowledge (OEE, COPQ, DLE, Takt Time, Cycl. Times)

Project management – Proven ability to manage projects independently.

Legal authorization – Valid authorization to work in the UK is mandatory. No visa sponsorship will be provided for this role.

- Salary: Competitive
- Location: Northampton, NN4 8HJ
- Hours:
- Monday to Thursday: 08:00 – 16:30
- Friday: 08:00 – 15:30
- Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
